Mario Tennis Open - Likes and Dislikes

There isn't a main Mario Tennis Open topic, so I'm just putting up a general one where all owners of the game can discuss what they like and dislike.

For me, well, I like:
  • Mii customisation (really fun to play with)
  • The new "power shot" system (AKA chance shots)
  • The quickness and intensity of matches has improved a lot
  • Lots of stuff to unlock
  • The special games have merit (you earn coins, so there's a reason to replay them)
  • Online mode is pretty decent (I've only played one match though)
  • Lots of stuff to clear

As for my dislikes, there aren't many but:
  • No Shy Guy
  • Tennis courts don't have those gimmicks like in Mario Power Tennis (could add re playability to exhibition mode)
  • A few items require StreetPass to unlock (there should be alternative unlock options, I don't like stuff that relies on StreetPass and friends)

My favourite character right now would have to be either my Mii, Baby Peach or Boo. For some reason I just played really well with Baby Peach.

My Mii is currently using the Shy Guy racket and the Bee Mario costume too. Hope I'm not giving away too many spoilers here either... *shifty eyes*. I'm saving up for the costume that's unlocked by holding 50'000 coins, so I haven't bought much gear.
 
I like the QR unlockables(no effort at ALL compared to Mario Power tennis)Mii access as well,Kinda want Metal mario and shy guy, love chance shots, and most listed.
 
You have to have 50000 coins at one time? O.O
Are you sure it isn't the total coins you've owned?

Dislikes
*No Wiggler, Petey, Shy Guy, or Koopa

*Too many Miis online
*You can only get coins by playing special games
*Diddy Kong and Baby Peach
*You can lose VR by winning O.o

Petey phirhana's unlockable,but besides that,i dislike that all as well @Super Leaf but INSANELY hate how many miis you see online

Looks like things are about to get bloody but..........................OBJECTION, Shy Guy (And Metal mario + Latiku im hoping)SHOULD BE IN IT!!!

Well, I think it's at one time. That said, I'm already halfway there. Just milk the special games a lot. You can get 800 coins every 3 minutes with Ring Shot challenge, as well as 2'000 or so in one big go with that Galaxy Rally.

He's only as a costume though as far as I know. At least I've got the Petey Piranha costume.

I did that and all I got was a Petey Piranha costume, so I'm pretty sure it's just the costume. I also think there's a Metal Mario costume, but that's just a hunch.

Nope. Clear it without a mistake and you get Dry Bowser. Whilst you can get a Petey costume you can never obtain him as an actual character.

Anyway, Likes for me include:
  • Different coloured Yoshi's, and they have a different play style
  • QR Code characters, makes things easier even it IS just Yoshi, I would rather have QR codes for that then beating things to get them
  • Intense Doubles matches!
  • A variety of different courses with no gimmicks
  • No over-powered special moves, straight up tennis action
  • Side-Games, Super Mario Tennis is the favourite, but sadly it's taken me a while to perfect
  • Galaxy Rally is a HUGE highlight
  • Online features, but I've never tried them yet
  • Music, Galaxy's music is fantastic
Bad things include:
  • WHADDYA MEAN NO KOOPA? OR PARATROOPA? WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?
  • Ditto the above for Shy Guy and Fly Guy
  • Shot Chances, whilst good they can be... Annoying
  • The shop - a cool idea, sure, but I have to UNLOCK the items and THEN buy them. Is that really necessary? Why can't I just unlock them and not boother with buying them? Or why can't I just buy them without unlocking them?
  • 'Direct' Mode. Do I HAVE to use this without the 3D effect? And what challenge is there if I don't need to move my character?
  • Touchscreen Controls. They're good for a few hours and then you never use them again except to cancel out a Chance Shot, which from what I've seen, only reduces the effect, it doesn't totally cancel it out
In saying all that though... I like this game. A lot.

Ok then ill start with good points

-QR unlocks are fun
-challenging but not impossible
-characters good , possible for more with DLC

-No over powered special moves from power tennis
- love chance flat shots ,best chance of a win

Bad points
-No point of the touch and motion controls,hard to use
-Ds download multiplayer forces the player to use direct mode ,don't know if you can change it
-will take forever for all mii items to be bought
-Lag online with some players,+ extra long matches with more than 3 sets aren't on online multiplayer

there is no Metal Mario costume. Metal Mario will probably be a character though.
And I did the Ink Showdown challenge and got the Petey Costume, not the acual petey. I really hope he's a QR character though
 
Although I'll admit that the Chance Shots are a LOT better than the Power Shots from the previous game (which were overpowered and broke the flow of the game), I think it's kind of annoying how you can just mash the X button to perform one. Granted, using the correct buttons on correct shots supposedly provides more power than using the Basic Shot, but the difference is not very noticeable. Overall, though, I really like Mario Tennis Open. Hopefully they'll add more characters eventually via downloadable updates (a la Mario Kart 7) or more QR codes.

People who just mash the simple button haven't got the strategic touch. I'm often using different shots while inside the chance shot, mostly because performing a drop shot or lob just wouldn't help me out as much as a top spin or flat shot would. Most of the chance shots are easy to counter if they don't have that tactical approach anyhow (e.g. use a slice when returning a powered up lob to reduce effects, I think).
 
Also to add, i sometimes use fake-outs on chance pannels sample: using a slice, topspin, or lob on a drop shot pannel.

And i have a feeling Shy Guy WILL be a QR, there's a shy guy racket in the game.
