Metroid Prime Federation is considered by most to be a troll of a game using the Metriod name. As pointed out by Kotaku, the newly posted trailer is being down voted at a very rapid pace to the point that voting is now disabled.

I don't understand the hate for this game. It looks like so much fun. Just because it isn't like a normal Metroid game, doesn't mean it should get crapped on before people play it.

people want a new metroid game and the last thing you give the fans is some cheap side game. I think if they released this soon after a major metroid game release then it might be welcomed better.

Yeah. If you give people a weird side game instead of a mainstream title after a long gap, of course people will be mad. Okay, they didn't quite screw up as badly as they could have (see Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts and the upcoming Young Conker, where weird spinoffs were made out to be the next 'real' game in the series), but yeah would have better to see a mainstream Metroid game alongside this.

I remember a while back, someone from Nintendo talking about the negative response and comparing it to Wind Waker, saying that we'd get used to the art style since it'll be a good game. This annoyed me since they were missing the point of why people don't like it. They then again in the other day's direct talked about why it belongs in the Metroid Prime universe which again just did not address the reason it's receiving such negative reception. They're showing an attitude of they're right and we're all wrong and it annoys me.

I wonder if this backlash will see indie developers making Metroid style games since it seems like that's not what we're going to get from Nintendo.

They have frigging Samus forgotten in corner havinga muffy for her birthday. There haven't been signs of Nintendo caring for the franchise since the Metroid after Prime series got mixed reviews. Then they bring a trailer that in the short viewing seemed like something unrelated taht got shoehorned the Metroid brand inside. Part of the reason of the rejection comes from the fear and silent consideration than if this game sunks, Nintendo might think metroid is not viable enough to keep making games on it.

Anyway, the game idea seems pretty interesting, but I too get the vibe @thebestofblue was talking about where they are not even giving us a time of the day with our concerns because people is obviously just overreacting. People just need to know that Nintendo is not planning to Axe Metroid as series and that a loaded game might be in consideration for the NX.

I will give it the chance if it is affordable and sounds interesting. It is afterall, just a spin off.
