Microsoft seeks to challenge Chromebooks’ lead in the education sector and today it has unveiled new Windows 10 and Windows 10 S-powered notebooks that start as low as $189. It has teamed up with its hardware partners to develop affordable Windows-powered notebooks aimed at the education sector. It has revealed the new machines at the annual Bett education show in London. The products include new 2-in-1s under $300 and notebooks priced under $200.

The Lenovo 100e is one such device. It’s powered by an Intel Celeron Apollo Lake processor and starts at just $189. There’s also the Lenovo 300e which is an affordable 2-in-1 convertible PC with pen support for $279.

$189 is a good price for a cheap laptop. It is cheaper than most cheap tablets and laptops.

cheap laptop is cheap, for a few extra hundred dollars you can get something decent.

These cheap laptop are sold mainly to elementary schools, and younger children who maybe more likely to steal/lose laptops, and spill juice, food, and throw their laptops when mad, so the owner of the laptop will lose less money if something bad happens to the laptops.

I bet, many of these laptops will be used for watching educational videos, reading ebooks, making simple Java programs, and typing text where a simple laptop would work okay for school tasks.
