Microsoft has finally removed their silly restrictions from Xbox One

And there's your proof that criticism from people online can change things for the better.

Too late. I'm jumping on the PS4 bandwagon.

They should never announced those stupid restrictions in the first place, now they've lost most of their fanbase.

Idiots I tell you, idiots.

It's a big step in the right direction, but it's not good yet.

1. Don't have the Kinect be required. It's an extra thing to buy, and the "always online, always watching" is just too creepy for me, and if someone ever hacks their network...

2. Allow backwards compatibility. Enough said.

3. Get rid of the app stuff. It makes no sense to have that on a console. I'm not going to argue against the TV portion, since most people won't utilize it anyway (since everyone that'll be getting this already has a cable or satellite hookup!), but I don't like the app stuff.

4. Get rid of ads. Enough said.

Step one complete. They've still got a long way to go before they're ready for the big league though.

Meh, still not interested. I mean, I wasn't interested before anyway, but they seriously screwed up. Honestly, I hope people don't forget how Microsoft's spent the last few months walking around like self justified, arrogant jerks and not only ignoring, but being belligerent and rude to the complaints and concerns of the gaming community. They frankly deserve to lose a lot of money after the little song and dance they've been singing.

Good on the community for getting them to change their minds though! Although I think it had way more to do with Sony's sales then the concerns of the consumers....

What the actual hell? Just a few hours after they cancelled the limitations, XbO pre-orders skyrocketed while PS4 pre-orders plummeted, according to Amazon best-selling charts.

XbO is now ahead of PS4.

Personally, I'll go with the PS4...

Good. The Xbox-shun needed a change or two. Not that I care, being a pure-blood Nintendo gamer. But still, seems to me like they are trying to drive away consumers. Especially with always-on Kinect spycam. I think that the Xbox-shun will still do poorly. My two cents on the matter.

Why do we need to pick one or the other so badly?

I think we'll never know

Humans are weird little things, aren't they?

I'm not sure if Microsoft is willing to change anymore about the Xbox One than this. The public will either have to take it as it is, or go with something else. I guess if you have a PS4 and a Wii U, you will have a large amount of game coverage except for the Xbox One exclusives.

I heard that this was because the PS4 did so well that it sold out. If this was the case, it would only make sense that the Xbox One passed it in sales because there were no more to sell!

Well. It is a victory for the consumer and that is great. But it is also a loss.

Microsoft took the wrong path. No point in arguing that, but with those restrictions came some verry interesting benefits. Not enough to justify the silly DRM and always on requirements, but still valuable services.

For example the game sharing library and the possibility for two people to play the same game at the same time. Hell that is a great thing. Playing a game with my brother over XBOX live whilst he is 300 km away and only needing to buy 1 copy? Saves us tons of money! They took it out.

Always having a digital copy even if you bought the game on-disc. Great! No problem if my husky bites on it anymore. Isn't possible anymore. They took it out.

I know this change is for the better. But I kind of hoped it would be the middle ground. Damn it, nobody seems to have to big of a problem buying games on steam and having the same problems! And look at those sales sometimes! Console games could have had same bargains too potentially. Too bad Microsoft had to make this console over the top with the phoning home system and the Kinect requirement.

This is a win for consumer's and a loss for them too. This could have been good changes. Microsoft, why did you overdo it this much.....

Why do we need to pick one or the other so badly?

most of us don't have unlimited money to buy every system that comes out. People also want their friends to be on the same system, and the system that gets the largest market share will get the most games.

So yeah, there are reasons.

Yes, I know about money and all that, but... still... people are making such big deals out of it, like their LIVES depend on it or something...

well when you have internet forums dedicated to stuff, you can expect a bit of passion and a lack of perspective.

It's the very definition of a 'first world problem'.

... especially considering how Xbox-One was planning to bypass countries with poor broadband infrastructure.

Gawd, why don't we just go retro?

I've never been interested in the PS3/4, Xbox, or Wii/U. I prefer kicking back with my PS and Gamecube. You gotta admit, the PS/PS2 and Gamecube had some cool games. Not to mention the N64! My brother's been groaning and moodier than EVER because of Microsoft recently! You're required to have a HD TV? Oh, come on! That's just unfair to those of us who don't have loads of money! I'm sick of this. *Turns on PS2 and plays Soul Reaver*
