Microsoft has announced that it's going completely digital and getting out of physical retail, permanently shutting down all of its stores.
While some locations, like the London, New York, Sydney and Redmond stores will be rebranded as Microsoft Experience Centres and "spaces that serve all customers," the rest will be closed entirely. It's not clear if jobs will be lost, but apparently retail staff will be moved to other facilities or work remotely to continue providing customer support. Microsoft says it reaches more than 1.2 billion people a month through its online stores already and, not surprisingly, will continue to invest in digital retail. It's already been doing that exclusively since March, when it closed down all of its stores due to the coronavirus. It hasn't reopened any since and had not announced any plans until today.
The Microsoft Store has been around for just over a decade, with the first opening in the US around the time of Windows 7's launch, in late 2009. There are now more than 100 stores globally.

I think the Coronavirus outbreak is probably one of the main reasons that the Microsoft retail stores are shutting down because fewer people are going out to buy Xbox games, Xbox consoles, tablets, and PCs.

A lot if people now use websites like Amazon, eBay, and Newegg to buy computers, tablets, smartphones, and Xbox games.

It's about making money and saving and getting rid of other things. Coronavirus has made allot of changes but this has been happening way before the Coronavirus, the Coronavirus just made it worse and finished them off

Everything nowadays are online based

Sad to hear that, mostly for anyone losing their jobs over this.

Hopefully, most of the workers can get work at home and technical support jobs at Microsoft.com's website and become beta testers for Windows 10 and other MS Software like Skype and Office 365.

MS could also help workers with getting more training for MS Office, MS SQL databases, Visual Basic and Windows to improve their chances of getting another job.

I didn't realise there were Microsoft stores either. I don't think I've actually ever come across one. It does make sense though. I think most people now tend to make purchases online. But an "experience" store makes a lot of sense
