Microsoft is apparently planning to release a native version of Mincraft for Playstation 5.
That’s according to PlayStationGame Size, a social media account that regularly reveals games early by trawling the backend of Sony’s console store.

Currently, only the PlayStation 4version of Minecraft is playable on PlayStation 5 via backwards compatibility. The Xbox version was recently updated to support 4K, though users have long been waiting for an optimised current-gen version.

Last year an Xbox Series X|S version of Minecraft appeared on various ratings boards. However, in a statement to VGC, Microsoft claimed the listings were part of standard approvals it regularly goes through with various rating boards.

One feature that could potentially be supported in an optimised version of the game for current-gen consoles is ray tracing, which Microsoft has been teasing since before the platform’s launch in 2020.

In 2021, developer Mojang inadvertently included prototype code for ray tracing support on Xbox consoles in a preview build available to Xbox Insiders, before quickly removing it.

“This early prototype code has been removed from Preview and doesn’t signal near future plans to bring raytracing support to consoles,” it said at the time.

I'm surprised Minecraft did not already have a native version since Microsoft has a lot of game developers which can make a native version of Minecraft for PS5.

I can't believe it has taken this long to get a native version of Minecraft on PS5, given how popular the game is. Minecraft still has millions of people playing it every day.

So a game about cubes gets optimized so the cubes move at a more smoother rate. Completely nonsensical why that matters but someone will buy it.

It's exciting news to hear that Microsoft may be planning to release a native version of Minecraft for PlayStation 5. With the current availability limited to the PlayStation 4 version via backwards compatibility, fans have been eagerly anticipating an optimized version for the latest generation of consoles. If Microsoft does indeed release a native version of Minecraft for PlayStation 5 with ray tracing support and other optimizations, it could offer players a visually stunning and immersive experience on the latest hardware. Let's keep an eye out for any official announcements from Microsoft or Mojang regarding this exciting development!
