Miyamoto announcing a new nintendo character?

Dillon from Dillon's Rolling Western? Mallo from Pushmo?

Mallo, perhaps, but Dillon's Rolling Western wasn't created by a Nintendo-owned developer. It was just published by Nintendo.

Okay, a MAIN Nintendo-published character who isn't some crappy guide and is actually a PLAYABLE PROTAGONIST OF SORTS is Miyamoto's idea of a NEW playable character. Just to clear up further rebuttals and stuff.

Shulk and others from Xenoblade? Monolith is now a first party company owned by Nintendo, a direct subsidaryi like Retro Studios or Intelligent Systems.

I dont have Dillon's Rolling Western or Pushmo, but i don't think they were by Nintendo themselves :>

I'm hoping for a (not robot-custumed) female main character

It better be someone that does something! Last one I can remember is Rozalina. It is kinda frequent though
A new character for a whole new game. Pikmin was the last one.
Uhm, no it wasn't. Pikmin was released in 2001 for Gamecube and in 2008 for the Wii, not excactly the newest..
Pikmin is Nintendo's newest internally-developed series, and their newest internally-developed IP.
There are other, more recent, Nintendo-owned IPs, but none of them were created by Nintendo themselves.
Thank you, i couldn't say it better myself
So you say that a character released in 20012 is newest? I guess we just skip through 11 years and say that Nintendo didn't release a single new game...
OMFG, you really don't get it do you?

FillFall, what they mean is that between 2001 and 2012, no new Nintendo characters were revealed. We obviously had new games starring the same old Mario, Link, Samus and so on. But apart from that, no more new original creations like Olimar.
Nintendogs? Miis?
Dogs and humans arent new original creations o3o
Mario is human.
Atleast he is Original, nobody would think of a plumber saving a princess huh?

I don't know how well a female main character would work. I mean they made Super Princess Peach and look how bad that turned out. How many males do you think bought the game? I know there are female gamers, but generally males are least likely to buy a game with a female as the main character. That's why in Metroid Samus was not revealed as a girl unless you beat the game in such amount of time.

I'm not saying this to be sexist, but more times than not, this is true.

Let's see... new character... I know! Peach's mild-mannered long-lost second cousin from Brooklyn, Mr. Whimblybottom! Who plays a tuba that spits fire!

You never know.
