Well, here's my guide for those that are new to competitive Pokemon. It would be helpful if you could find any grammar mistakes.

Simplified EV training guide

1)What are EVs?

Effort Values, or EVs, are rewards for defeating Pokémon that can raise your Pokémon’s stats. Your Pokémon earns EVs whenever it KOs another Pokémon. You can earn a maximum of 510 EVs on a single Pokémon, and 255 on a single stat, however, you only need 252 to maximise a stat. At lv100, every 4 EVs raises a stat by 1.

- EV yield

Every Pokémon defeated gives you EVs. However, different Pokémon gives different amount of EVs after defeated. For example, Tranquill gives 2 Attack EVs, while Basculin gives 2 Speed EVs.

2)Why do we EV train?

EV training is for maximising your Pokémon’s outstanding stats. For example, a lv100 docile natured Hydreigon with no EVs has the following stats:

HP: 325
Atk: 246
Def: 216
Sp.A: 286
Sp.D : 216
Spe: 232

However, one with 4 EVs on HP, 252 on Special Attack and 252 on speed has the following stats:

HP: 326
Atk: 246
Def: 216
Sp.A: 349
Sp.D : 216
Spe: 295

3)EV training items

There are items that help your Pokémon to gain EVs.

1. Vitamins

HP up: +10 HP EVs

Protein: +10 Attack EVs

Iron: +10 defence EVs

Calcium: +10 Special Attack EVs

Zinc: +10 Special Defence EVs

Carbos: +10 Speed EVs

Note: You can only use vitamins to earn the first 100 EVs; they will have no effect if the corresponding stat already has 100 or more EVs.

2.Wings

Health Wing: +1 HP EV

Muscle Wing: +1 Attack EV

Resist Wing: +1 Defence EV

Genius Wing: +1 Special Attack EV

Clever Wing: +1 Special Defence EV

Swift Wing: +1 speed EV

You can use wings any time and as many as you want.

3.Held items

Macho Brace: Doubles the EVs gained, but halves speed when holding.

Power Weight: +4 additional HP EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding. (For example, when your Pokémon KOs a Basculin, it would gain 2 Speed EVs, plus an additional 4 HP EVs.)

Power Bracer: +4 additional Attack EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding.

Power Belt: +4 additional Defence EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding.

Power Lens: +4 additional Special Attack EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding.

Power Band: +4 additional Special Defence EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding.

Power Anklet: +4 additional Speed EVs whenever you KO a Pokémon, but halves speed when holding.

Exp. Share: The Pokémon holding it can earn EVs even if it does not battle. (For example, if your leading Pokémon defeated a Basculin and one of your Pokémon in your party is holding an Exp. Share, they would both get 2 Speed EVs.)

4)Methods of EV training

START EV TRAINING IMMEDIETELY AFTER YOUR POKEMON HATCHES OR AFTER CATCHING IT IN THE WILD! Because your Pokémon starts gaining EVs from the first battle, so you should better not battle any trainers before EV training. All Pokémon that participated in the battle earns EVs, so you can switch out to a stronger Pokémon to finish it off.

HP: Stunfisk, Route 18, +2 EVs each

Attack: Patrat/Lillipup, Route 1, +1 EVs each

Nice thanks! I'm currently doing all the subway battles I can so I can buy me some power tools. Also quick Q. Subway battles don't give EVs after the fights, right?
