In world 1-1, what is the most coins you collected? (And I am NOT talking about the coin rush mode.)

I managed 778 coins.

Anybody who can top that? I doubt it...

I thought I squeezed every coin out of that level, but apparently not. Not by a long chalk.

But yeah, if you DO have the gold flower, I came to 7282, easy. A cakewalk for Mario!

I just rushed the level and kept ground pounding the goomba tower at the end and respawning it
