Nintendo Rumor-NX "Is Definitely Not Aiming To Compete With PS4 On

That thing is so not getting any third party support.

I find it hard to believe that this could be true. No way Nintendo would be foolish enough to NOT have power this time around...I hope

To be honest for *Nintendo games* even Wii U horsepower seems good enough to make most games look very nice. Not saying I wouldn't take a more powerful system, but it isn't like the Wii days either where the graphics looked really worse than PS3/360 games because of the lack of HD.

I'm guessing they totally are going with the hybrid of fusion concept. So maybe the Android app rumors are also true, that would fit into a low cost, low power machine that's portable centric.

If it does get any third party support, traditional games will most likely flop on it just as they did the Wii U.

The way I can see this working is if they manage to reach a strong userbase in a short space of time (combine  the handheld and console), third parties may make cheap exclusives for it that just as they did the Wii and capitalise off that market.

Will Nintendo ever learn. Generally, people don't want to buy a product when they know the product sitting right next to it is more powerful.

Nintendo is trying to recreate the Wii again it seems. They could succeed, but the odds are against them.

This disappoints me. I had higher expectations from Nintendo's next console, but it seems like the company just has a certain target audience and doesn't want to stray away from their typical lighthearted games.
Nintendo has never really wanted to compete with any consoles since the Sega war back in the 90s.

What will it take for Nintendo to turn things around? I think it would really suck if Nintendo didn't have anymore 3rd party support. Also, there is nothing wrong with a little competition. It keeps you on your toes and forces you to stay sharp.

Well, this IS just a rumor so we shouldn't worry too much.

The problem is THIS particular source is usually right. So that does make this worrisome.

They need to stop acting like they own the industry and realize they are a PART of it.

"Listen to your customers. Stop telling them what they want. Start LISTENING to what they you. "

That's what I'd tell Nintendo if I could.

Personally, I feel they started talking about the NX way too early.

The Wii U was only been out for a little under 3 years. The moment they started talking about it, it tells the customer "we're going to leave the Wii U" behind. And yes, I know they SAID they wouldn't do that. But look at what happened to the original Wii when the Wii U was announced.

If this rumor is real, the NX MIGHT sell even worse than the Wii U, which says a lot because the Wii U looks like it will be Nintendo's worst selling home system ever.

Okay, so it will have hardware capabilities similar to PS4? But the NX won't even be DISCUSSED until 2016. It won't LAUNCH in 2016 (not garunteed anyways). By time the thing launches (probably 2017 or 2018) it will STILL be a generation behind sony who will probably have released a PS5 already.

I have nothing against nintendo or wii or wii u (I want a wii u pretty badly for SMTXFE#) but I think Nintendo's problem is their technology is always SO far behind that they can't attract the right developers.

Who wants to develop games on technology that's 5-6 years behind everyone else?

Nintendo's glory days, back on SNES, he had specs equal to the genesis. He had lots of exclusives from 3rd party developers then. N64, they started to lose 3rd party support (losing squaresoft was a HUGE setback for them I think, especially in their homeland of Japan).

I saw on my facebook over the weekend, that before sony PS1 that nintendo and sony were working together on a cartridge based platform. Sony took their technology and made the PS1 when the deal went sour. And because their system was more advanced than the N64, developers like Squaresoft followed suit and jumped ship.

Ever since then Nintendo's been unable to compete from a hardware standpoint.

Maybe the fact that it won't be as "strong" as the PS4 comes with what was rumored before about the next console being a portable/home console hybrid. Anyway I'll wait for more info on the matter and while it's true that this in theory makes 3rd party support less likely, it's also true that the 3ds has a lot of 3rd party support and makes a lot of money even though is "weaker" than the vita. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what nintendo has in store for this new console. I hope it really is a portable with home console capabilities at a reasonable prize.

But why not focus on something that will use "next generation" technology, instead of settling for technology already existing inside our consoles (and by time of the NX release, likely to be technology that is 5-6 years old already.)

Maybe the fact that it's a handheld does hold it back in some way -- but yet, when you look at the PC world, we have things like the Razer Blade laptop, Nvidia shield tablets, and "Mini" PC setups. While these are small and form-fitting-factors, designed for portability, you can still play the same games as a "gaming extreme gamers rig"

So in theory, why couldn't nintendo be designing a system to compete with playstation 5, instead of playstation 4? They've already lost that war, they need to be looking to the future, not to the past.

I really, really hope this isn't true.  I mean, the fact the Wii U ended up weaker and with different hardware to the PS4 and Xbox One is one reason it never got any third party support past the first few months.  The NX being the same way will just mean that gets no support too, leading to yet another underselling system that only appeals to the most hardcore Nintendo fans.

All they need to do is put 3DS games playable on the console and that will sell it for 3rd party support :P
I don't recall the 3DS having a lot of third party support itself. Unless that was the joke?
