Nintendo Sees No Reason for Wii HD

Satoru Iwata has said that there is currently no reason to make an HD compatible version of the Wii console, saying such an iteration would have no 'significant meaning' to users.

Despite speculative reports to the contrary, the Nintendo President told Venturebeat 'As far as the Wii is concerned, we have not found a significant reason to make it HD-compatible at this time. What is the significant meaning to the users? I don't think we should do it unless we find that reason.'

An HD Wii was heavily rumoured last October, and industry analysts have been confident that such hardware was imminent.

An HD Nintendo console is inevitable, however, with Iwata going onto say, 'If we decide for other reasons to make new hardware, then HD is one of the things we would naturally add.'

no reason for a HD Wii? Does this guy look at forums and blogs? Fans are shouting for one. and with the black Wii coming it should be in there.

I don't really care about an HD Wii since I don't own an HDTV. I think the Wii will be in HD when more people have nicer HDTV.

They probably make a HD Wii when the next Nintendo consoles come out.

I can understand the "I don't care, I don't have an HDTV" but, think of people that do, maybe they would like HD. I mean we could put it like this, "We here at [insert favorite TV channel here] have decided that we are only going to broadcast in black-and-white." Not exactly fair, is it?

I think it's fine to play the Wii without HD capabilities, because many gamers still do not own HDTV sets. It's been said at E3 that if Nintendo added HD and Blu-ray stuff to the console, that may cause a price hike.
