sourceWhile Zelda: Wind Waker is widely regarded these days as a masterpiece, it's no secret that its drastic switch to a more cartoon-like art style was controversial upon its release on the GameCube back in 2000.
In an interview with games TM recently, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma admitted that the initial negative reception inspired a cautiousness with the series' art style moving forward.
“We encountered an awful lot of problems from the drastic leap we took with Wind Waker," the producer told the magazine.
For any drastic changes to Zelda's art style in the future, he admitted "I think we will be a bit more careful."
But Aonuma's far from closed off to innovation.
"If we find a new approach that not just the developers, but also the users would enjoy then I think we will want to break new ground again.
"But we haven’t found such an approach yet.”
I still wish the art style from OoT and MM was still used, best looking Zelda to date. Which style is your favorite so far?
