Firmware 4.50 adds a handful of features to the console, including easier data transfers between PS3 and Vita. Here's the official breakdown of "some of the new enhancements" in 4.50:

  •     Auto download of system software updates has been expanded to support all PSN users.
  •     Auto download support of purchases made on the Web Store will be made available to all PSN users.
  •     New options for trophy privacy settings allow users to set which trophies are visible.
  •     Data can now be transferred from PS3 to PS Vita using wi-fi and ethernet connection.

Whats the point of trophies if you can't show them off?

The reason for having the ability to hide trophies is for those games that have like less than 50% completion that you might not want to show off. Or maybe just to hide those that have 0% from showing up. (Like say you rent a game from Gamefly and have it for a week then return it after trying it and discovering you don't like it. But simply by starting it the trophy list shows up. Now it's list is there but you don't want people seeing it's on your list and sending you invites for it. So with this at least you can hide games from showing up.)

Or could even be that you don't want a game to show up unless you've completed it 100%. (Or possibly you're playing a game that you maybe don't want others to see. Like if you're doing a LP and you're collecting all the footage first before putting it up. This way people on your friends list aren't seeing that you're playing that game.)

So plenty of reasons for that function actually. (Plus this function has been a part of the Vita since it's last update so it's not surprising that this migrated to PS3.)

Not really, it's actually a feature that's been requested for some time now and like I mentioned in my previous post there are a number of good reasons why people would want it (aside from trophy hunters).

I'm glad they actually implemented it. (And to be honest I'd rather have more options even if I never want/need to use them.)

I had no idea it was actually that important to some people. Very surprising. I do have tons of games that are in my listing with barely any trophies. I guess it would be nice.
