QR code is very useful for mobile marketing.
People can scan it and go directly to your site!

Here is a simple tool to generate your QR code.
You just need to enter your text (in your case the URL of your website),
and get its QR code representation.

Here is the link: QR Code Generator

Hmm, never thought about this. Not a bad idea.

Good promotional Tip! I agree, QR codes are pretty useful for quickly going to a site by scanning a QR code.

This is pretty interesting, but I don't know where one could post the QR codes to promote the site... I mean, you could post it in your signature on other forums, but people who browse forums on mobile devices don't usually see signatures because signatures don't appear on mobile themes...

I think QR codes are more commonly used for offline promotions like being printed on posters/flyers, T-shirts, magazine ads, and TV. If your users are using a mobile or desktop web browser, a text link, or picture/banner link would be better for promotions since it just requires the user to click on the text or image links. I think you also get improve search rankings on search engines like Google if many people share your websites link on their website, or you promote your links on their forum, or blog.

I don't even have the budget to invest in online promotion, much less in posters, t-shirts and magazine ads... Oh, and I've never seen a TV ad for an online forum... That would be incredible... :D

You can make smaller letter sized posters with a laser printer (ink from inkjet printer gets ruined by rain water). There is also Iron-on T-shirt paper which are pretty affordable, but you need to use your own printer, iron, and T-shirt to make the T-shirts.

Websites like Cafepress, Zazzle, and Spreadshirt make customize T-shirts, but those sites are more meant for setting up an online store to sell customize T-shirts with your logo and custom graphics on it to your members, and fans if you are an online celebrity.

I agree magazine, online, and TV advertising is very expensive.

The idea I thought about was to prepare large number of flyers containing our QR code using a regular printer, and distribute it in relevant places likes schools.
This offline promotion campaign should be quite effective and cost almost nothing.

We are living in a new age, show him and explain him about QR code and he may also use it...
I wouldn't do that in a million years...some people believe what they know rather than what's real.
