Don't get me wrong, I loved the first two Mario Galaxy games. Particularly the second one.

But recently, rumors have been popping up that Super Mario Galaxy 3 is gonna be teased at E3.

There IS evidence to support this. First off, Nintendo released the first Galaxy to the Wii U eShop, as if to remind us just how great it was -- as if we'll ever forget.

Also, Miyamoto even stated that the next 3D Mario game could be a Galaxy game.

What're your thoughts on this?

I really want a new Galaxy game. I won't read too much into the release of SMG on the VC though, Nintendo seems to do things with no real apparent thought put into it. Remember when Reggie showed up at the video game awards wearing a Metroid pin on his suit, and all he did was announce Cranky Kong as a playable character in DKC:TF? They also had that guy begging for Mother 3 in their Robot Chicken sketch at the beginning of their E3 Digital Event last year and it turned out to be absolutely nothing.

I'm not sure how I would feel about this to be honest. I loved galaxy 1 and 2, and I'm sure that if it came out on the wii u for the third installment that the motion controls would be done away with, but in all honesty, I'm hoping for a mario game that's got more of an open level structure like in super mario 64 or super mario sunshine. Again, the galaxy games were great, but if it's got a closed level design then I'm going to be a little sad.

Yeah, which is exactly why zelda wii u is going to be such a huge breath of fresh air, even if it doesn't come out until 2017.

I'd love a new Galaxy game, but I'll be way, way more excited at the prospect if it's confirmed to offer pro controller support. I've played a bit of Galaxy 1 from the disc, and while it's definitely a good game, god I hate the controls.

I really hope this is happening. I love the Galaxy games to bits. What would be awesome is the gameplay of Galaxy combined with the wide open level design of 64, as well as a few out-of-the-box levels like Loopdeswoop. I doubt that would happen though, as Nintendo's usual excuse for things like this are "today's generation aren't as tolerant to games of high difficulty" (alternatively, "Please understand" is sometimes used :p). I guess we'll see what happens.

Flat out no. Galaxy games have over stayed their welcome. The first was great, the second one was interesting, but managed to be more boring than the first and I'm pretty sure they can't do anything more that they haven't already done. I mean they already went back to reusing bosses/levels from the previous Galaxy game.

I never get this sort of attitude. With the development time they had it is likely a choice between either using content from older games or having no content at all. Are you claiming that the game would have been better without the extra galaxies from SMG1 and SMS?

The thing I enjoy most about the Galaxy games is the controls. Wiimote + Nunchuck is a perfect fit for some games and the Galaxy's are a perfect example.

I'm saying it's lazy. At least when Nintendo made Majora's Mask from OoT, they improved it and made it better, but Galaxy 2 just didn't have the same fun factor.

Well, I can't wait to find out if Super Mario Galaxy 3 gets confirmed. I still remember the old days of playing Super Mario Galaxy in 2008 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in 2010. Good and fun times...

I'm conflicted about this.

On the one hand, I did like Galaxy 1 and 2.

But on the other hand? I'm not sure I want to see a third one. I don't want to see Mario just end up getting direct sequel after direct sequel without much changing up. Don't want Galaxy to become the 'safe' option for 3D Mario games. Like the one they unveil every time they want to impress people without coming up with anything new.

And I too want a more open world 3D Mario game.

It didn't have the same fun factor in your opinion. Not to go all Benoit with the FACTS, but just a brief glance at reviews, ratings and thoughts on the games, and most people seem to be of the opinion that the second game was even better then the first.

I too have never understood why people insist that everything must be new in games. Nowadays, no matter how good a Mario game is in every other way, I always seem nutjob who insists on whining because there's 'a grass world, an ice world, and a desert world'. Well, maybe they wanted parts of the game to take place in those settings? I mean, I suppose they could be more creative with their ice world, but what else are they going to do? They don't necessarily want to make super crazy out there worlds, especially when a lot of the games take place in Mushroom Kingdom- there generally isn't weird stuff in Mushroom Kingdom in most of the games. This just seems so odd that people complain about this. I've just never found myself playing a Mario game and being like, "Damn, an ice world, we've had an ice world before'.

The incessant need of some gamers to have things solely be brand new puts immense pressure on a design team I'm sure. It's probably part of the reason why Nintendo pulls this stuff with 'Can't make an F-Zero, can't figure out how to innovate it. Can't make a new Pokemon Snap, no way to make it 'new', and insists on being 'innovative' with controller schemes and things that most people would gladly have done without in return for just more, fun games. Why isn't having a new story with familiar faces you enjoy seeing good enough anymore?

Personally, I think that some reused content is good.
Except for the pizzeria idea for FNAF 2, that was stupid.
Anyways, that octopus guy in the first Galaxy had a much more difficult comeback. It was hard beating him in his second boss fight!

While I don't disagree with Brunn that expecting something completely new and innovative every single game that comes out is unreasonable, I do feel that a third Galaxy game would start to push the bounds of how many times you can revisit the same thing. The reason I've come to dislike the 'New' Super Mario Bros games are they're the same thing, just with one or two new powerups every time. There's not so much a lack of innovation as them being lazy. There's only so many times I can run through levels to jump on a flagpole before I start feeling like perhaps I'm wasting my time, and that's a bad thing to feel when playing a game. The Galaxy games both felt unique and clean to me, with enough differing in their mechanics and expectations that I enjoyed them both. However, Galaxy 2 began to make me concerned with the whole 'green stars quest' concept…instead of making more levels for this, they just stuck stars in the same levels you've already played through. That to me says 'we wanted a larger game, but we ran out of ideas.' If they indeed ran out of ideas, I'd rather not see them make a third Galaxy game…my opinion of the NSMB games has gone down with each new iteration, and I'd really rather not see Galaxy suffer the same fate. Personally, if a Mario game is going to see a sequel, I'd like to see a Sunshine 2…there's no way that they ran out of ideas after the first one, and I'm sure they'd be able to come up with all sorts of creative ways to use the game pad with FLUDD or goop. Plus it'd be a series revamp, instead of 'we're continuing to work on the last concept we had that was well received.'
