Safety measures for electronic gadgets

What are the security measures that you guys take for electronic gadgets, in general?
As for me, I don't usually take any measures...but I do try to avoid using them when they start getting overheated.
What about you guys?

I stop using electronics once they are getting too hot, or low on battery life if it is a battery powered device.

If it gets hot I'll turn it off or cool it down and I use power protectors to stop surges.

I avoid using them for too long, giving them a rest if I don't necessarily needed to use them.
