If you’re a North American PlayStation Plus user, rejoice because the open-world sandbox game Sleeping Dogs will be completely free beginning on May 7th.

This news is announced on  the PlayStation Blogcast, which also revealed that Pinball Arcade, Knytt Underground and Vita’s BlazBlue will also be free at some point during the month of May.

Anyone know if I could get the game free from someone else who has PSN+? As in copy it from their machine to mine?

Wow, whoever gets this are really lucky to be getting such a great game for free. :D

From what I have seen and read the game looks and sounds fantastic.

Plan on getting it myself in the coming months.

I'm definitely going to be downloading this game later tonight.

Actually gamesharing is against their ToS because it's against their terms to let others log into your account. Outlined in these sections:

3. COMMUNITY CODE OF CONDUCT
You may not engage in deceptive or misleading practices.
...
You may not provide anyone with your name or any other personally identifying information other than your Online ID, nor the name, password or personally identifying information of any other person or business through any means, including messaging, chat or any other form of network communication.
...
You may not sell, buy, trade, or otherwise transfer your Online ID, SEN Account or any personal access to SEN through any means or method, including by use of web sites.
And in more detail here:

Share/Hijack Account
Sharing personal Sony Entertainment Network account information in order to obtain access to another persons Sony Entertainment Network account. Changing another persons email address, and/or password without their permission in order to gain and control access to an account. Offender attempted to use or take content they did not pay for.

They give you 2 licenses to use on your own systems... Not so you can give a copy to a friend.

So if you're caught they'll probably just close your account/ban you from PSN.

And just because you may have done it in the past doesn't mean that it is acceptable or that you'll never be caught. (I don't know exactly what tools they have access to, but I'd imagine that they have IP tools at minimum. So if you let someone else use your PSN account who is 600 miles away and then you use it like 10 minutes later... They'll be able to tell what's going on.) And it's also worth considering that it doesn't have to even be a Sony employee that catches you doing this, if someone reports you (for anything really) and they start looking at your account activities to figure out if you really did anything... they'll likely notice and shut your account down.

Even then gamesharing is kind of risky unless you really know who you're dealing with. I mean you have to provide them with your username/email and password. (Which general internet wisdom says to keep passwords secret.) And they can login, make changes and otherwise use your account. Including to make charges (if you have an attached credit card) or buy stuff with money in your wallet.

So game sharing really isn't worth it. If you really want to take advantage of the free games PS Plus offers you... Just pay the 50$ and get a year's Plus. I'm sure there will be other great games on available to make it worthwhile. (Not to mention if you download any amount of DLC or PSN games they often have specials to save PS Plus users more money.)

Your grandma has PS+? And I've never heard of anyone getting caught, so they obviously don't care much. I've been game sharing with many different people, they don't suspect a thing. A lot of people game share too, and none of them have been caught. The fact it's in their ToS is to scare people who think they might actually get caught, but you won't, so if you don't wanna benefit, it's not my problem.

well my grandma lives about 2 blocks away and she has PSN plus and I know she won't play a game like this.
Your grandma is great! You have the gamer signals on  the blood for sure. ¿She  still plays?

I still find it strange that 70 year olds play games. lol I will always think of it as our age geoup since most gamers are below 40 since it got big in the 80's.

obviously she isn't big on FPS or button mashing games or games with lots of action or blood. but there are games that people like her can play.

But my question is, if I access her account through my PS3. Does that mean her account can't be used on another PS3 if the day comes she needs to buy a new one?

You can use the same psn account on several PS3s without it really affecting anything. (I have 2 PS3s, both of which I have my psn info saved on.) The only issues are:
- that if you have 3 PS3's linked to one account you can't use your downloaded content on all of them.
- And that you can't sign in with the same account in 2 places. (But you don't need to sign into PSN to use content. As long as you have a profile on that PS3 with the PSN ID and password saved then you can use content downloaded by that psn account. Even if you're signed in on your profile.)

It is worth noting that just because you haven't heard of people getting banned for gamesharing does not mean it doesn't happen. I have heard of people getting banned for gamesharing. So yes it does happen. How frequent does it happen? I have no idea. I don't have enough data to make a guess on this. (Given though that they reduced the license count from 5 to 2 as a result of this gamesharing issue though, it must have been a bit enough issue for them to warrant that. So there must have been quite a few getting banned for it if they felt they had to make changes.)

Now, you can argue whether it's morally right to do or not all you want. (Sony has already outlined it isn't ok with them. And legally it isn't acceptable either. In legal terms it's classed under fraud. Though they may also be able to paint it as copyright infringement too.) So if you want to gameshare, fine... go ahead. But just be prepared for the consequences and don't be so foolish and naive to assume that there won't ever be repercussions.

Because unless you actually have access to their logs, it's a bad idea to assume anything since you have no idea what info they actually have. And like I mentioned, they must have tools that at the very least would include IP logging and transaction records. So they know which content is being downloaded where. Just because they may not have actively looked at the data doesn't mean they don't have access to it and couldn't ban you at any point in the future for what you've done. This isn't like a legal system, there is no statute of limitations here.

And as a reminder, they have 77+ million registered users... I highly doubt they actively look for individuals breaking rules. They likely just don't have the time or resources to do it so they largely have to rely on other users to help report issues. Which, like I mentioned before, is how they'd be most likely to actually notice gamesharing is going on.

does that only affect the machine or PSN account?
Deactivating it online deactivates it from every console. Deactivating it from one console is just from that console.

I feel like I'm talking to my parents. >_> lol
