sooner or later our computer gets slow on us and we do everything we can from keeping ourselves from bashing it with a base ball bat. But I'm wondering how to keep my computer from getting slow and I am wondering if anyone knows of something that can prevent it. I can usually keep a eye on weather my computer will be slow via the windows task manger and keeping a eye on the CPU usage.

I have used a restart to fix the slowness but sometimes this don't work for very long and usually everything running in my processes are something that needs to be running.

You can use the Windows Classic theme and disable all your visual effects. This is a good article by MS. It has almost everything you can do to improve your performance in Vista and 7 : http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows-vista/Optimize-Windows-Vista-for-better-performance

I find using Bleachbits helps: http://bleachbit.sourceforge.net/ since it deletes all the unneeded junk files from my PC

I find my PC performance increase when I run scandisk and defrag on the hard drive once a month or more.

I rather have nice looking visual effects, but right now I need better performance then looks so I did that and I noticed a nice boost in speed.

I just used bleachbits and it worked really well, the program spent ten minutes deleting my java cecha. :o
