Pretty good for beta version running natively on pc.

Tried it myself, runs good considering it's still in beta, some controller issue and minor 3d graphic glitch but being able to run it natively on pc in 4k (with draw distance and effect quality enhancements) is great! Recorded the test play:

This is great news. Sly 2 was the one my brother and I played to death on a hand-me-down PS2, we never had a memory card that worked properly so we restarted Band of Thieves more times than I can count.
Has anyone tried the beta on a low-end laptop yet? Mine is an old i5 with integrated graphics and PCSX2 was always a bit of a struggle with the cel-shading, wondering if the recompile runs lighter.

Yes pc recompiled console games run better on pc. They require less system and hardware resources as there's no emulation overhead. Emulators have to run a translation layer in real time, simulating an entire console's hardware chips and instruction sets while running the game. Recompiled translates the original game code ahead of time into native machine code so it runs directly on your PC's CPU and Gpu.

The steamdeck runs ps2/3 pc recompiled games well.

The movement in this game series would be even better then.

Well higher fps alone will smoothen all movement.

Thanks cm2, you were right about the overhead. Tried the beta on the old i5 on Sunday and it holds a steady frame rate in the hub areas, which PCSX2 never managed on this laptop, the fans don't even spin up much.
That laptop mostly lives on the couch with the football fixtures open so I know which weekends are free, but this weekend it was all Sly. Same controller issue you mentioned though, my cheap Xbox-style pad loses the right stick now and then and the camera just stops. Unplugging and plugging back in fixes it for a while.
Did you have to remap anything to get the gadget buttons working, or is that still on the to-do list for the beta?

Haven't really tried the gadget buttons remapping thing been busy playing Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave on my Switch 2. The buttons and controller issues thing should be fixed in later versions...
