At the Direct today, the New 3DS is getting its own Virtual Console support via Perfect Pixel which will display the following games in perfect resolution as they were way back on the SNES.

Today: Pilotwings, Super Mario World, F-Zero.

March 24th: Super Mario Kart, Earthbound, Donkey Kong Country.

April 14th: A Link To The Past, Super Metroid, Donkey Kong Country 2.

Again, these can only be played on the New 3DS handheld and not older models.

I'm glad that there's SNES games coming to the New 3DS, but I either already have them, beat them, or don't care about them. Hopefully they have more later on.

I'm pretty stoked for this, seeing as we're actually about to go trade in for the New Nintendo 3DS XL's, since Gamestop is doing a really nice sale, and trade in deal on old XL's.... I'll really miss my Yoshi special edition XL, but the battery life on it's been going for months, and the new features of the system are gonna be really nice. Having some SNES games to add to my roster will be great!

This is awesome. However, I'm a bit disappointed how many more games Japan is getting for this. I mean, we start with three, they start with about ten (including the five below):

Along with stuff like Mega Man X:

We're getting all the same games as some point, I'm just disappointed we're getting them much more slowly, given that all the games are already in English and there are no real technical differences between regions.

I wish I could get it for my non-new 3DS, but that's okay, I'll just keep playing the SNES games on Wii U. I think it's awesome that they're finally doing this though.

Super Mario World, YES!

I thought Nintendo would've had SNES games on the Nintendo 3DS back when the eShop opened (June 7, 2011). The same goes with GBA games, which I thought would've been on the eShop a few years ago, but nope. Maybe we'll get GBA games sometime in the future.

Supposedly the CPU in the original 3DS units can't run SNES games well. As they told Game Informer:
“As previously announced, New Nintendo 3DS has an improved CPU, which enables Super NES games to run on the system with quality results,” Game Informer was told by a Nintendo representative. “The Super NES games also include Perfect-Pixel mode, which allows players to see their games in their original TV resolution and aspect resolution.”

When I complained of this, my husband mentioned he's seen in the past where people had hacked their 3DS's and found that SNES games jsut didn't smoothly at all, and were buggy as heck. I can't confirm this since I haven't read it myself, but even then I feel like Nintendo, with all their access (seeing as they made the darn games, and consoles) should have been able to work around this easy sauce. Of course, I know nothing of programming either.

Still seems silly to me that there wouldn't have been much more of a rush to get the VC content out years ago, and evenly across all systems too... The games are done, translated, ready to go for the most part. It's basically lots of printed money, just waiting for Nintendo to get their act together and bring on the rakes!

Wow, that's an impressive lineup! Disappointing to see how much better Japan is getting it though. I mean, they get nearly 30 titles and we get 8? That's kind of sad...

I would have liked to see Super Mario Bros. 3 from the first NES make it to the 3DS. I loved that game.

But I don't mind some of the titles that did make it. I remember playing them as a kid.

This doesn't make me want to buy a new 3DS - I still have my SNES and most of my old games. While it'd be cool to have them "on the go" I do the vast majority of gaming from my home, so it's just not worth purchasing new hardware. Link to the Past and Earthbound are both amazing games though!
