Sony Closing PS3, PSP and Vita Stores

most likely explains why I've gotten away with using an expired cert then.
 
Sony canceled the plan for the ps3 and vita stores and will remain operational, The PSP will retire as planned :

Recently, we notified players that PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita devices was planned to end this summer.

Upon further reflection, however, it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here. So today I’m happy to say that we will be keeping the PlayStation Store operational for PS3 and PS Vita devices. PSP commerce functionality will retire on July 2, 2021 as planned.

When we initially came to the decision to end purchasing support for PS3 and PS Vita, it was born out of a number of factors, including commerce support challenges for older devices and the ability for us to focus more of our resources on newer devices where a majority of our gamers are playing on. We see now that many of you are incredibly passionate about being able to continue purchasing classic games on PS3 and PS Vita for the foreseeable future, so I’m glad we were able to find a solution to continue operations.

I’m glad that we can keep this piece of our history alive for gamers to enjoy, while we continue to create cutting-edge new game worlds for PS4, PS5, and the next generation of VR.

This is great news. I've been trying to find a PSP or a PS Vita in order to download Persona 1 and 2. No luck though seeing they're really hard to find for some reason.

Sony may still be earning enough money from the PS3 and PS Vita from digital game sales where it is worth keeping the digital game store online, so they can sell more games.

I feel some Sony share holders who own Sony stocks sent complaints to not shutdown the PS3 and Vita stores, or they stop investing their money in Sony stocks.

Well $100 is a lot more reasonable than the $400-$500 I saw on Amazon if they were even in stock.
 
Whatever the reason was, it's good to see that they reversed this decision. It's a shame that the PSP store will still be closing though
 
True. Which is why I was surprised about the PS Vita Store staying open, to be honest. I understand the PS3 one, but I thought the PS Vita would be dead like the PSP.

The Vita's had a bustling indie scene for awhile, so that might be why they're keeping it open. The PSP has mostly been relegated to the homebrew scene.
 
Since their are new franchise console versions for play station series, Sony deemed the older franchise lacking the valve to be closed down, focusing on the newer franchise to make them live up to their hype.
