It doesn't feel like 2005 was all that long ago... until you remember that the first iPhone didn't launch until 2007. In the many years since a former Sony executive could make an offhand remark about the Nintendo DS, touch screens have taken over, and the tech is getting sharper every year. The future, it seems, can take anyone by surprise.

lol, sony fails.

Sony sure was bitten behind on this one! Just look at all the devices we use nowadays that features touch screens. Even Nokia, famous for producing cheap and reliable but overly basic featured phones, are producing full touchscreen low-end basic phones. We just cannot escape the impact touchscreen technology has got and for Sony, it seems like they are a little behind in their race. Though we don't exactly require touchscreen for gaming on consoles or handhelds (their buttons and triggers work perfect!), I feel that it is once again a matter of time before buttons and triggers would be phased out and by then, maybe Sony would have a new statement to release!

Well he is no longer the the president. He didn't say that they would never use the touchscreen or that the touchscreen for portable gaming systems is useless so I don't see any harm in his statement. On a personal note, I don't like touchscreen gaming, basic gaming buttons will always be enough for me.

I agree with DarkGizmo and Mudrock, afraid that it will fail and saying they'll never use it are different. I wouldn't even say they were wrong so much, simply because they stated they were afraid it was going to fail, not that it actually would fail. And realistically any new technology produced by any company is not without it's risks and fears. How many are saying right now they're afraid that the Google glasses won't catch on? Will they though? Hard to say right now, it is still extremely new tech that isn't even out yet.

Lol Sony bombs a lot with their handheld. PSP Go anyone? Millions spent on it and was dropped really fast.

least they had the smarts to drop it fast.

the consumer is a unpredictable force when it comes to new gadgets.
