Oh man, what an epic night for Sony. In the five years I've watched E3 never have I seen the crowd burst into a chant and applause so loudly for a game conference. Look at any gaming news blog and they will be mentioning how popular forums and social media sites are over flowing with PS4 wins and Xbox one RIP comments.

Sony is truly bringing what gamers want and where as they may impose a few restrictions, they stuck to what gamers want and gamers are happy now.

Don't believe me? Check it!

That was a truly amazing moment that I think everyone was really on edge for.  People were really worried that Sony might do something like microsoft and force DRM against used games. But this just sealed things firmly in Sony's favour. They have pretty much won this E3. And quite possibly this entire generation based on that.

(Though the PS4 also being confirmed at 399 for a launch price probably didn't hurt either.)

It's not actually about winning, and it's only the first day of the event.

Makes me wonder if Microsoft weren't so dumb about their online authentication and used games what would Sony have done as most of their "speeches" were aimed at pissing on Microsoft.

I say it's not about winning because gamers should just chose the option of console that they like. If that means moving from Xbox to PS then so be it. You pay for what you want. Many gamers are going to have a biased stance towards Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo and in their eyes they (their preferred one) are winning E3. People are praising Sony because all they've done is not change their policies (which is good), but also used the E3 conference as a spring board to piss on Microsoft, real professional dudes!!!

I think that when it comes to E3, potshots are fair game for both companies. (Gives everyone on the internet to talk about.) Make it funny so we laugh. Make it harsh so that the other company feels it and knows just how badly they've misstepped. Hopefully that will humble them a bit so they don't repeat that same mistake again. And don't pretend that microsoft doesn't do this to Sony either (because they do).

I do agree that it should be about the individual (exclusive) games themselves... But in all fairness, when a console holds really harsh anti-consumer practices you should factor that into whether or not you buy that console when you're looking at what games that console will have. And really, microsoft made it pretty easy for Sony to stomp all over them with their policies. Plus Sony has some pretty nice games too so you really can't go wrong with Sony consoles.

I can't deny that Sony didn't go out there and act like smug bastard but MS pretty much set themselves up for it all. Can't tell you how many internet memes I saw in the first hour after the sony event ended of sony beating up MS.

And that just goes to show that Sony has done particularly well out of E3 because of Microsoft's stupid decisions.

Everyone has been praising Sony because they aren't changing their stance on online connection and used games. Therefore Sony haven't put anything out there, they just haven't changed anything.

Yeah their games may be pretty good, but that's all down to personal preference of games and most people will like some PS exclusives and some Xbox exclusives.

Honestly I've never liked Microsoft's E3's anyway. They show some games I want, but most of it usually uninterests me. This year was better than the last two though.

Totally agree.  Sony took the cake at E3, and I think I'll be in line for the PS4 when it comes out.  Microsoft really "screwed the pooch" by not listening to its fans.  Honestly, I'm not entirely impressed with any of the next-gen consoles, and I might end up going back to PC gaming in the near future.

The only thing that makes me sad is the new Halo trilogy.  I won't be able to continue it. :(

You can't say that Sony won E3. The case, rather, is that Microsoft lost it. If Microsoft had made other decisions on DRM and used games, Sony would've had a considerably less remarkable E3. Yes, Sony capitalized on the tension that Microsoft was putting on the industry, but it's just like any other business.

What I was more impressed by was how Sony choose to appear. All of their speakers were well dressed as compared to other conferences. The entire day I kept talking about how everyone was dressed as if they just woke up 5 minutes ago and Sony came in as if E3 meant something. Sony has already had a really poor console release, and from how they carried themselves at E3 really shows how much they want it. I think that this is just the beginning, it's going to be a really interesting summer. I hope that Microsoft comes back with some banter of their own.

I'm sure Sony will come out of this week the more popular new console producer, but I doubt there's any defacto winning or losing at E3, at least on the consumer level. In my opinion, the most important thing to focus on at the end of the day should be how consumers will win. What games do I like, and how will I get to play them? That's what I'm thinking about when I watch some of the E3 coverage.

Sony just rubbed salt in the microsoft wounds. The best part about this is that it shows that sony actually listens to the consumers and actually works with them to make it a better product, whereas microsoft doesn't listen to anyone, they just do whatever they possibly can to assume their customers are criminals and will do anything to make more money off of them. RIP Xbox 1, it was basically a stillborn.

Boy, they didn't just win. They wiped the floor with the competition and then rubbed their face in it.

Realistically, Sony didn't really win by doing anything special. They just made some common sense decisions that are obvious to apparently everyone except for Microsoft. They won by not being total morons.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting here trying to figure out how some of these decisions from Microsoft made it through the company all the way into the final product. At no stage did they realize they were making a huge mistake? Were there no focus groups? How can you screw up this badly?

They also had the great idea of releasing it around the holidays which will result in them getting more sales around launch time than they would if they did it in the middle of the year. I just wonder how long they've had all this planned out. I'm feeling a little like the Xbox is going to be gone soon because it's not going to make enough money to support itself with all of the decisions that Microsoft are making with the Xbox One.

Well after watching both conferences, who has an Xbox 360 sitting at home, would definitely agree with everyone here that Sony has come out on top strictly because they have not changed their policies and are allowing a non-restrictive DRM. From the onset I thought that the idea of not being able to share my games that I bought was ridiculous, and furthermore, having to be constantly be connected to the internet was really stupid (not everyone can afford to be constantly connected). Nevertheless, it is not what Sony has implemented but rather what Microsoft has changed that has made Sony look so good. Microsoft really blew it, and have made a pretty big mistake when it comes to judging what the players want. Microsoft got greedy, and now it will cost them.

I don't play on the console very much, but do have an interest in getting a Ps4 after watching the conferences. My biggest thing is waiting to see the exact types of games that will be coming out for it. I am excited about some of the games that were show cased though!

But for once, I think Sony might just come out on top this year.

I agree with some of the people saying that Sony didn't win so much as they just did what they've been doing while using it as a way to curbstomp Microsoft at the same time.  The impact would've been much less if those crazy DRM policies weren't something Microsoft was so hooked onto.

Regardless, the night was ridiculously amusing to me.  My twitter timeline exploded with hilarious jokes and it was glorious.

To be honest, I would have definitely gone for PS4 and Sony to win this as well. There is just too much information that is better about the PS4 than the Xbox One this time around. Sorry for all the Xbox fans.

After watching this, I gotta say that Sony did play their cards right this time around. That, coupled with whatever risk that Microsoft is taking, gives Sony an advantage in terms of support from fans. I too support PS4 as opposed to Xbox, and the audience in this video basically just expressed what I wanted to when I heard of the new features.

Well, After the first few mintues of watching that video, I gotta say that I will be buying a PS4 and notthe new Xbox. I cant believe Microsoft would DRM their games. They are just of bunch of greedy businessman trying to ever-increase their profits.

I believe there was a collective "Oh Snap! Somebody call the burn unit!" going through the crowd during that part of the conference. I mean, that wasn't even trying to sugarcoat it, that was straight in the face of Microsoft.

I can't wait for some of the commercials and press events that will be hitting the air over the coming months. Sony has a history of mocking their competitors in a pretty hilarious way.  I wonder if Kevin Butler will make a come back?
