I'm a mixed opinion about region free.
On one hand, it's nice to play with all people worldwide, and buy a game in a different region without worries of it not working.
On the other hand, it usually results of lots of lag due to the difference in distance (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in a lobby of 11 Japanese + 1 Spanish player for example is enough to lag for everyone).

I can totally relate. Happened when I played MOBA games, I'm with Germans and my connections are well up and no problem then suddenly when the game started it's so lag that my click is delayed for almost 3 secs.
