That's an old post xD For a second I thought GA was back.
Eating with your mouth open is just plainly a lack of manners and not really etiquette I'd say. That's really kind of a hard topic to tackle lol. People are sensitive enough if you criticize them. Talk about their kids and they'll bite your head off.
For the proper eating etiquette, I'd say they just aren't as necessary anymore? I still use them, and will teach them to my kids, but honestly I only really care about how I might be looking when eating with people I'm not very comfortable with.
That happened often in the past, but not so much nowadays. Large family dinners only happen like once or twice a year (as opposed to every holiday/birthday/whatever in the past) and sometimes I dont even attend.
I'm guessing its the same for parents nowadays. If they were often in situations where eating etiquette mattered, they would put more effort into not looking bad, and teach their kids to do the same.
I do believe that is the case. Sometimes it's because of the parents too. I know one of my colleagues who don't close her mouth while eating and makes loud noises and guess what? Her kid is the same.
She believe that it's cute and I don't know how else to let her know about it, without hurting her. Ugh. ..
