The quality of English dubs on anime has improved dramatically, especially over the past decade. However, things were not always like this. English dubs on anime tv shows, OVAs and even theatrical films were absolutely horrid during the 80's and 90's.
Even the legendary Akira movie had a tragically bad dub. However, it's quite enjoyable to watch with this dub and I prefer it over the remastered version with the modern dubs.
If it's absolutely dreadful, then probably! It's always quite humorous when something's hilariously bad x3
If it's just kinda bad, then probably not. More so because I've found very few anime with an actually good dub.
Just my opinion but I really can't stand the overly emphasized unnatural sounding "anime" style of english dubs.
Well, I must admit that I very rarely watch dubbed anime (only if there is no subbed version), so my opinion is probably biased, but somehow I find that the original voice cannot be replicated. There's always something special about the character... I don't know. Plus, the cultural context is kept much better if it's in the original. Some things just can't be translated (I occasionally translate short stories and texts from English to Croatian and vice versa and so I know this - the cultural things are always a BIG question and no matter how you manage to deal with them, there's something lost in the translation).
I watched Cinderella in a dubbed version (there was no subbed version available) and I must admit that it was alright, although sometimes it sounded odd. I think I would have still preferred the subs.
It may be that the dubbing business is going down and so no one pays it much attention or bothers with it more than it's absolutely necessary, who knows.
