Although it's rather self-explanatory, I'll explain myself anyway.

Just post your Facebook profile so people can add you, and then look around the topic to see who else posted their profile. If you send a request to someone, I personally suggest you add a personal message to let him/her know who you are.

Facebook's name was a play on the name of the books handed out in universities to help students get better acquainted. (Source: Google/ChaCha)

Ivy league universities are notorious for handing these books out. The founders of Facebook attended an Ivy League school (Harvard), where they continue this tradition. BU (Boston University--US! Not UK!) currently has student conflicts with handing out their "face books" because freshmen males have been posting the female's photos online on a "hot or not" type of website where the BU men vote and comment on the female students there. Although BU isn't quite ivy league, still funny to see how people react to the notion of handing out the physical "face books". (Source: Me)
