Thoughts on 3DS menu themes?

As a concept?

Personally, I'm not sure I care much for them. I mean, how much time do you think I spend just looking at the 3DS home menu? How much time does anyone spend there?

It's nice, but it's about as useless as desktop wallpaper on a computer.

It basically is a wallpaper on the 3DS. I personally don't care more or less since I'm not going to be staring at the menu screen with a blank face and nothing to do. I find it a little crazy for Nintendo to charge for themes so I guess I'll either wait until they are free or unless there is a Mother/Earthbound, Wario, or something else interesting theme on there I am not getting any of them. Hopefully someone can hack the 3DS and get custom themes on there but I wouldn't make a big deal out of it if this never happens.

It's cool and personal, but having to pay real money for them is a bit... lame. I mean they're cheap, but they aren't worth it. It would be cool to spend play coins on that.

I find it funny PS Vita and 3DS got the theme option at almost the exact same time and both are crap. I set mine to black merely because I hate white and the other colors are too overbearingly added. It'd be nice if I could set the folder colors and background colors seperately (similar to icon and background options on a PS3). I'm still waiting for you to be able to place an image from your photo gallery into the background of the top screen (as I stated years ago, for an example, go into your photo gallery and click an image to view it then hit HOME and you'll see what I mean). I mean, not for nothing, but once again I have to tack on a "every console not made by Nintendo that I own does that" here. Yes, even the Vita.

Also, I don't like this new layout for the eShop. What was wrong with the old, much more organized, look? Now I have to poke my screen to read a description and scroll all the way down to see images? Images on top = the way to go.

I think it's a nice addition but it doesn't really add much to the 3DS as a whole. I personally am really happy with them - I have over 200 games downloaded on my 3DS and finding the one I want to play can take a little bit. (Yeah).

I like them. It's nice to have the options to customize the system a bit more, and I wouldn't mind paying money for a theme I really liked. I looked through all the ones available though, and the only one that I would even consider buying was the Zelda theme... all the others were super ugly. Didn't get it though, since I'm not a huge Zelda fan. I changed my system to the free black version, it looks really nice.

I think it's nice that Nintendo is moving their systems to be more in line with the others out there that ARE customizable, even if they didn't do the best job. I've had custom wallpapers on all the different pages of my Vita since I got it, and it just looks so much nicer being able to change it to how I want it. I hope Nintendo's next proper systems offer more... options.
