I like to get a input on the next project I like to do with GF, finally set up a Wikipeida for gamingforce. We've tried to do this a few times in the past but lack of time and support force me to shut the project down. So once again I like to try and do this and before I do it I like to see interest in this. Here is the things we can do with the wiki:

Each member will get their own page to fill with what they like.
Fill it with gaming terms (noob, frag, kick, ect.)
Fill it with video game titles along with it's price and release date
Active members can purchase a spot with shards to type in what they want
Anything else gaming related.

I can also set up the wiki much like our website, where you will instantly be registered to the wiki with your forum details upon loading the page.

Your thoughts on this?

Most would be too lazy to fill it :P
I would have to agree with that lol.

I may be to busy to do so myself, but will definitely put some info there.

Over all, this sounds like a great idea.

I don't really think this idea is a good use of your/our time and energy.

Most of the stuff that you'd be adding to your wiki would be available elsewhere (wikipedia, gamefaqs, ign, etc...) and would be updated quicker (since it'd only be a few here doing it while there'd be significantly more on other sites) plus a lot of things (like release date and price) vary a lot by region (while some info is also covered by other places or isn't needed to be given at all.) Even if you're aggregating data from other sources, it'd still be a waste of your time and effort to keep everything up to date.

I mean for price it wouldn't really be necessary to list price unless you want to start listing every region's price, and even then you wouldn't have to list every game's price since they tend to follow a certain format of:
1- New special editions retail for 70$ or more (depending on what is included).
2- New full games retail for 59.99 USD.
3- Rereleases or updated versions of existing games (like Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3) retail for 39.99 USD new.
4- PSN/XBL titles released on discs often retail for 29.99 USD new.
5- Greatest hits retail for  24.99 - 19.99  USD new.
6- Used games retail for 54.99 - 4.99 USD (depending on age and number of copies a store has available).

(Note, I'm basing these prices off my memory so they could be wrong or slightly off. My point isn't for 100% accuracy either, but to show that game prices have a common pricing scheme which means having a wiki page/section dedicated to listing all game prices probably wouldn't be worth the time or energy to keep updated.)

Plus if this has been shut down or stopped before due to lack of time/support then it probably will just happen again.

I think that unless you have some really unique content (something that could only be found on your site and only really applies to your site) that you'll probably want to skip a wiki since it won't benefit you much at all.
(I mean it isn't like you have a game in development that you could use a wiki to list common troubleshooting things, solutions to levels or etc... Nor is it like on a roleplay where you'd be listing various important infos unique to that one site like races, characters, groups, etc...)

Just my thoughts anyway.

This does sound like an awesome idea DS. When you start getting things set up, let me know the link so I can see if there is anything we would maybe need to put into it that hasn't been already.

All good points but it doesn't hurt to expand the site and offer something for the members to do. The problem I am faced daily is that I run a gaming forum which thousands do and there are many more successful than this place. Not a whole lot of forums run along side a wiki and I hope once it gets going we can generate unique content for it.

If nothing else it can just be a wiki dedicated to our members like our partner sites do example, example.  (and I'm in that second example :P )

I'll also look around the net for anyone helping in supporting the wiki as well.

It all depends on if you are happy with the activity in the forum or have other things you would like to achieve.

In reality, its not really an amazing idea and won't be used as often as you'd think.
In a sense of being used, it won't be used much if at all. It's just another extension of the forum that can attract people.

I am happy with activity but at the same time not happy. If I want to increase that I need ways to keep the people on the forum and busy and offering different things that other forums don't general have.

Just because other sites have a wiki doesn't mean that having a wiki yourself is a good idea.  I mean wikis tend not to be real big draws for people to forums. (Wikis are more meant for storing extra information for users to quickly and easily find. Which makes them great for roleplays where people may want to store extra details about the game that aren't 100% necessary but may be more for fun/info. Or for sites dedicated to one game that's in development and has bug fixes, issue lists, strategies, enemy info, powers/weapons info, etc...)

And what sort of unique content would you be wanting to generate? (Since it'd be a good idea to plan ahead what content you want so you can easily organize the wiki for it. That is if you decide to implement one. Though it's also a good idea to look into various wiki types and see what kind of connection options they have.)

I will maintain though that I think there might be other, better ways, to improve your site's standing. Especially as a gaming site.

Yes, this is true. A wiki is only a *very* small part of a strategy for a forum of the general gaming genre. If this forum had a more specific niche, for instances "retro gaming", "Megami Tensei Gaming", or "Mother/Earthbound Gaming", a wiki would likely be a much larger asset; however, it should be only a very small part of an overall strategy, yes. I'd advise events in popular games amongst the community, etc.

I'll definitely help out.
Me too,I think this is a great step for the Gaming Force forums as it will tell the newer users like me about the forums and it'll also encourage more users on here to do more things instead of just looking into space at the screen. Nice idea Ds.

Looks like were kind of split on this, thanks for the feed back. I'll put this on the back burner for now.

For those of you who said this is a bad idea, what then? What can GF do to better expand it's self for the gaming members? One person recommended a clan but I'm not really active enough for online games to keep something like a clan going.

Oh, you mean a trophy guide Wiki that all members of GF can modify. NOW you are speaking my language!!!
Just kidding......I know I'm the only one here who cares about trophies online.

Well, I retract my opinion on the matter. After thinking about the wiki more and visualizing it, I believe it is a good idea, HOWEVER there are plenty of things around here that do exist that there is minimal effort to clean up, organize, and offer attention to.

I'm just concerned that the the effort into this wiki will turn out to be a crap shoot.

One person recommended a clan but I'm not really active enough for online games to keep something like a clan going.
I have a solution for that. I'll tell you about it shortly.
