US-Israeli strikes on Iran Situation

Read from news.com.au

We have a cranky new social media post from Donald Trump.

“The Failing New York Times and Fake News CNN each reported a totally FAKE TEN POINT PLAN on the Iran negotiations which was meant to discredit the people involved in the peace process,” he writes.

“All then points were a made up HOAX – EVIL LOSERS!!! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN.”

I’ll run through what’s happened here again.

In his announcement of a ceasefire yesterday, Mr Trump said Iran had presented a “10-point proposal” that he felt was “a workable basis on which to negotiate”.

The Iranians then released, via state media, a breakdown of what it claimed those points were. I say “claimed” because as we’ve frequently noted, the Iranian regime is often full of crap. The Iranian version was essentially a list of Iranian demands, several of them surely non-starters with the Americans, and almost no concessions.

The world’s media reported on Iran’s claims.

The Trump administration has spent today claiming that the list of points distributed by Iran is incorrect, and there’s actually a different 10-point proposal behind the scenes which is much more reasonable. And that proposal is what Mr Trump was referring to in his announcement.
Two ten-point lists then, one of which Mr Trump rejected, and another he found more palatable.

But the United States has not given us any idea what is on that second list, if it even exists. We’re told it’s a real thing, and yet they can offer no detail.

That’s the context here. The New York Times and CNN, along with pretty much every major news organisation on the planet, have reported on the contents of Iran’s version of the proposal. The US has not provided a competing version. Yada yada yada, “EVIL LOSERS”.
