Valve has announced that the Steam Deck will launch on February 25. In a blog post, Valve confirmed that those who reserved a unit will receive a confirmation by email that day, after which they will have 72 hours to purchase the handheld or give it up to the next person.

Steam Deck units will begin shipping February 28, and more confirmation emails will go out each week. Valve also announced that impressions of the Steam Deck from members of the press will begin to show up soon, and then more widely on February 25.

The Steam Deck was originally planned to be released in December, but Valve delayed the launch, citing component and manufacturing snafus caused by global supply chain issues. There are 64GB ($399), 256GB ($529), and 512GB ($649) models, with some additional perks coming with the pricier models (such as an anti-glare etched screen on the 512GB model, and a Steam Community bundle for the top two models).

You could buy a good laptop and controller for that much for a whole Steam Deck and I wonder how good it would run first before even thinking about getting one. I can wait though, no big deal since Steam has good prices and even free games.

I feel the Steam Deck is expensive. I rather get a used Gaming PC, or older game console which I maybe able to get for a lower price.

Not something I would get because I feel like the money would be better put towards a gaming PC. But I'm looking forward to seeing some proper reviews of it

Valve has announced a substantial price increase for the Steam Deck. The company announced today that all new OLED models are officially back in stock after months of being out of stock, but they will be getting a price increase. The lowest-tier model, the 512GB OLED Steam Deck, was previously $549 and will now cost $789. The premium 1TB OLED Steam Deck was previously $649 and will now cost $949. Valve stated that "these new prices reflect the current state of component costs and other global logistical challenges across the industry as a whole."

Refurbished LCD Steam Decks sold through Steam will not suffer a price increase, though it does appear that the refurbished OLED Steam Decks will still cost more than their original price. The refurbished 512GB and 1TB OLEDs now cost $629 and $759, respectively. If you're okay with a slightly less premium handheld, the refurbished versions of the now-discontinued LCD Steam Decks are a solid option. 64GB LCD costs $279, the 256GB LCD costs $319, and the 512GB LCD costs $359.

Looks like Ill never get one of these now unless I get the 64 GB whenever they put it back in stock.

I had a feeling the price would go up too, but I definitely wasn’t expecting it to jump by around $300. That’s a lot more than I had in mind. At that point, you start comparing it to full desktops/laptops or other handhelds instead of just the original Deck.

I’m sure Valve has its reasons, but it still feels like a pretty steep jump for what was originally positioned as a more budget‑friendly entry into PC handhelds.

It was all fun and games till reality kicked them in the shin.
