The casual-focused PlayStation Vita TV has received a stronger reaction in western markets than Sony anticipated, something that could improve the odds of the device eventually being released outside of Japan.

Sony Japan's Masayasu Ito revealed to Eurogamer that the western response to Vita TV has been "strong... more than we expected." This prompted him to state Sony is thinking of launching the casual-focused device in the United States in Europe -- backing up what Sony told IGN last week -- albeit without guaranteeing anything. "But when it comes to the timing, we'll have to watch the environment and identify what other services are available in the US and Europe and whether we'll have to add other services," Ito said.

In addition to allowing Vita games to be played on a television set with a DualShock 3 controller, Vita TV also offers video streaming services and, following a future update, the ability to use a DualShock 4 to play PlayStation 4 content through Remote Play

The rationale for launching Vita TV in Japan -- where it will be sold for 9,480 yen, or about $95, beginning on November 14 -- was outlined by Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Andrew House. With TV-connected devices that offer video streaming and game support already being available in the west -- and more being on the way, possibly including Amazon's Android-powered box -- the challenge is much different than in Japan.

"The reason we wanted to launch PlayStation Vita TV in Japan first was because we think that there is a significant gap in this market even for a pure streamed TV box," House said. "There isn't really a competitor here that's staked out a claim. And frankly, in my own view, Japan is a little behind the adoption curve in video streaming services."

Gamers want games on their tv, we all want Persona 4 golden on our tv.

Hopefully, If Vita TV gets release in the US, and other countries, Sony will bundle a gamepad controller, and 8GB memory stick for the $100 version of the Vita TV.

Having the PSP Vita TV out could also hurt the PS3 and PS4 sales because some parents may buy a PSP Vita TV for their kids instead of a PS3 or PS4 because they see a cheaper Sony console, or their kids ask for a Vita TV instead. Casual gamers may also pick the Vita TV over a PS3-PS4 because casual gamers mostly play casual games which are not very graphically intense, or have a lot of levels.

I think it would be nice if a future Vita handheld can also connect to a regular TV when plugged into a TV with a video cable, and let youuse a a wireless   gamepad controller if you prefer a controller over the Vita's controller.

The older PSP has a TV cable to connect it to a TV cable for TV gaming.

yeah I never got into the PSP tv thing, wanted to but lack the games to shove the money out for that.

I don't think it will hurt the PS4 sales since handheld and console have different games. Don't forget, games is what sell things.

Having the Vita TV could make a lot of game makers make games for the Vita TV instead of the PS4 since there would be more gamers who own a Vita console which can play Vita games vs a PS4 which can play PS4 games since if the Vita TV, Vita, and Vita Slim gamer population combined become a lot larger than the PS4 gamer population than there maybe more games coming to the Vita TV and Vita instead of the PS4 because game companies will have a better chance of selling more games on the Vita consoles with more gamers than a PS4 with fewer gamers since there are already many millions of Vita sold, and when the Vita TV comes out, there could be many millions more Vita TV gamers which can play Vita games, but on the TV.

Some gamers may pick the Vita TV over a PS4 if they see that the Vita TV and Vita are releasing more games they want to play, and they can play the same Vita game on their Vita TV, and handheld Vita.

If the Vita TV becomes not as popular as expected there are still many millions of Vita handheld gamers which can play the same games the Vita TV can play.

No one really knows how popular the PS4 will be after launch now that the Xbox One, Steambox, Amazon console, iConsole, Google console, Ouya, Gamestick, Madcatz Mojo, and other consoles being release before or after 2014 which may make people buy the PS4 at a latter time, or not at all if the console they have is good enough for them.

There is also the Wii U which could release a lot of good games in the future, and Nintendo could drop the price of the Wii U to make more gamers pick the Wii U over the Ps4, and other consoles.
