Yes, online multiplayer will be possible with the Wii U, and is optional.

The PS4/Xbox One versions of WarioWare: Get It Together let players compete with each other in a number of different ways - 1-player, 2-player co-op alongside other players from around the world to see who can clear a stage fastest or take on one another (or AI) to see who can clear a stage first. You have full control over your living room TV screen in single-player modes while playing alongside others - so it's easy for everyone to get involved during playtime!
