Well, was it?

Cause it was for me. It was the first video game with turn based battles, levelling, etc that I'd ever played, and was what eventually got me interested in a few others (like the Mario RPGs).

So yeah, was Pokemon your first RPG?

Is say the first pokemon game I've ever played was Pokemon emerald but that wasn't the first rpg I've played the first for me would be Final Fantasy 1

If I'm remembering right Sapphire was my first RPG, and I think it was because of that that I branched into that genre more, discovering things like Fire Emblem in the process that I've stuck by since.  Kinda funny to think about now...

Wow, now I feel old. My first RPG was the very first RPG released on a console - Dargon Warrior for NES. Unless you count the Dungeons and Dragons: Treasures of Tarmin for the Intellivision which was a first-person dungeon crawler with a stat-based system comprised of gear and weapons but no exp.
