When it comes to storage technology, we have companies like Western Digital, Seagate, and Sandisk just to name a few. Now Sandisk is a slightly different beast from Western Digital as the company is more known for their memory cards than hard drives. However it looks like the memory market just got smaller as Western Digital has announced their plans to acquire Sandisk for a whopping $19 billion.

Wow, $19 billion dollars is a lot of money. Hopefully, Sandisk still continues to sell USB Flash drives, SD cards and MicroSD cards in the future, and not just SSD Storage drives.

Hrmmm, thats a shame. Sandisk makes some great products.

I think Western Digital makes great products as well. A lot of people say their hard drives are pretty good. Hopefully, Western Digital continues to make most of SanDisk products instead of just computer and laptop SSD storage drives.

You may have a hard drive made by Western Digital hard drives installed on your desktop, laptop, game consoles, and DVR like Tivo video recorder. Western Digital is the biggest hard drive makers. It is also a supplier to many computer builders like HP. Some USB external hard drive companies use Western Digital as the drive inside their external hard drive case.

Western Digital also owns Hitachi Global Storage which also make hard drives.

I agree, Western Digital is not a name you hear much unless you need to buy a replacement hard drive for your old computer or laptop, or you need a USB external hard drive, or portable USB external drives.
