In a way, but I think he means the more cartoon-y style used in Wind Waker.

Honestly, If Nintendo wishes to get me into Zelda, I'd like to see some entirely new elements put in there. Maybe abit of Mario put in there. Same with Mario. Turn Mario into a Zelda-like RPG...See how that turns out. It'd be a great change IMO.

But if you put Mario elements into the Zelda series, and Zelda elements into the Mario series, wouldn't you just end up with two different series that play exactly the same, and are only differentiated by their main characters?
Mario games are supposed to be platformers. If Super Mario became an action-adventure (and that's what Zelda is. It is not an RPG. RPGs have upgrade-able stats), then it just wouldn't be Mario any more.

So basically cel shaded with an Ocarina of Time/Twilight Princess type overworld? Yeah, that could work nicely.

This could so be done. It has a perfect spot in the timeline right after spirit tracks, but maybe a bit more in the future so the overworld would be more unique.
