He never appeared outside of Super Mario Bros 3, where he was the fortress boss, but they never really explained exactly what kind of creature he was and how he was related to the Koopalings and Bowser.
Okay, one manual source said he was the faithful servant of Bowser... so is he like a proto Kamek type character? Why did Bowser suddenly decide to get rid of him after one game, yet tolerate the failures of his many other advisors and servants?
Is he a Koopa? Heck, he reminds me a lot of someone else from the series, a little guy called Jr Troopa from Paper Mario:
Just like Boom Boom, he gets new abilities as the game goes on and reappears in many different areas, such as the wings (both characters gain these as a random new ability), and I wonder if they're of related species?
