Well, which one will finally make it sell by the bucketload?

Super Smash Bros 4?

Mario Kart 8?

Zelda U?

Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze?

What do you think?

I agree with Chaotix.

I remember when those franchises came out on the Wii. Smash and Kart came out in like a month apart; the wii exploded :pacman:

Smash Bros. will bring in many die hard smash bros fans who so far have yet to buy a wii u. I don't know how many such fans are left nowadays though...

Bayonetta 2, possibly. It would show the world that nintendo is for the first time not a liar as they have been every other year. Every generation Miyamoto says "we are straying away from the family oriented" and then he goes back on it. More people around my age would be apt to buy a Wii U if they felt more games around their age bracket would be released for it. A new Conker's Bad Fur Day, Bayonetta 2, and Eternal Darkness 2 would all be great ways for them to prove themselves as actually following through with what they say this gen. Doubtful that they will, however.

Personally, I don't think any one game can 'save' the Wii U. I think it's more like "2014 will save the Wii U", if they continue on the momentum they've started building up. Between Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros, and Tropical Freeze, they could easily create a perfect storm to finally build an install base on the console IF they keep announcing new heavy hitting games to get people excited. Sure, Mario Kart is great and a lot of people will want it, and some might even buy the system just for it. But way more people are gonna want it and be willing to buy a system if they hear of a lot of other great sounding games coming in the future.

What I'm really worried about is that they're riding all their hopes on these games- they NEED to be working on more projects to come after those, and those projects need to come out far more quickly then what's been happening so far. I'm kind of sensing a serious lull in titles that are really going to grab attention after the first few releases, and that's definitely not something the Wii U needs right now!

They should also announce N64 and GC titles for the Virtual Console sometime after the release of these games, along with traliers for them; that would certainly rile up some attention.

A combination of Mario Kart 8 and SSB will draw in the crowds. I think I said this in another topic, but another $50 price drop plus a bundle with either Mario Kart or SSB this holiday season would help sell a tone of units.

Honestly I think what's killed the Wii U is the price point. It should have came out at $300 and the most recent price drop should have put it at $250. Instead, just like the 3DS, Nintendo got greedy. The incredibly small HD is also a black eye for Nintendo, especially when other consoles come out with 500GB HDs.

A new Metroid or Starfox, but several others would help with a home run in sales.

I post this before reading the thread, so keep that in mind.

I think Nintendo should stop appealing to the children and start going with a bigger crowd. Their "fun for the whole family" thing isn't really working out. Most of the people I know don't really like playing video games with their family, but more with their friends. Also, all of the Wii U commercials that I've seen have shown young children telling their parents "this is why we need the Wii U." This is most likely killing their chances of selling to adults and teenagers by making it seem as if the console is for children. Even with some of the little kids who like to act tough say the system is for babies.

If they want it to sell they really do need to push out more games for the older crowd and stop with the comercials of kids begging their parents for a Wii U. With that said though, I would own a Wii U if I had the money.

No game will 'save' it. Smart decisions, revisions and a bigger library with multiple must-have games will save it. And definitely a change of focus, Nintendo needs to stop targeting the casual Wii owners and focus on the more hardcore audience, the ones who know the Wii U is a console, not an add-on, the ones who will upgrade, rather then see the Wii as never needing an upgrade, sense it still plays Wii Sports.

I'm with most people. I think SSB and MK8 will definitely help sell more consoles, especially if they bundle them.
There's such a huge fanbase in both franchises that I have no doubt that it will help 'save' the Wii U.
Which reminds me, I need to get one, lol. When I have the cash... >.>
