What I think Smash Bros 4 needs to realise for its single player mode...

That the very premise of the game itself is already ridiculous, and that a massive multiplayer crossover with well known video game characters beating each other up in their well known universes is the key point by itself.

The problem with Brawl and the Subspace Emissary was that they overthought the concept. No, no one gives a damn about making the whole thing combine into some kind of 'plausible' storyline, because it doesn't make the slightest bit of sense anyway. They didn't need a Final Fantasy writer, hell, the best story for the game would be like a bad fan fiction, over the top, ridiculous and one big excuse to explore fictional ones and fight famous characters, bosses, monsters, etc.

Super Smash Bros 4 should have something like Mushroom Kingdom Fusion for its main storyline, just nonsensical crossover stuff where you explore places like the Mushroom Kingdom, Hyrule, Kanto, Zebes or wherever and beat up Bowser/Ganon/Ridley/whoever. Like this:

Or how various other fan games just ramp up the 'rule of cool' elements and throw plot out the window. Nobody plays Smash Bros for a storyline, you might as well just cut out the story.

Anyone else agree?

I didn't find the Subspace Emissary all that bad, it was fun (except for the freaking maze at the end), but I prefer things like the adventure mode in the first SSB, where you move from battle to battle, with special stages between them.

I agree with some aspects...I do like how they added the story and made sense of it all at least somewhat enough to shut people up, ya know.

Anyhoo...This video is probably one of the coolest fan games i've ever seen! I'm so going to try this.

Oh I remember that game, I tried to download it back when I had my crappy computer. It does look good.
I do plan on buying SSB 3DS and expect it to be way better than brawl. Brawl came out like 4 years ago or something and in todays history gaming has advanced alot over the years. So Nintendo better have something epic planned for the next game.

I think that SSBM had the best adventure mode of all. The SSE wasn't all that great to be honest. It also had little replay value.

SSB doesn't quite need a story. It was fun to play, but Melee's adventure was fun too. Only problem was it was one set track and the stages where a little short, making it repetitive, especially playing it with every character.

However they decide to do it, I hope they return to the format of being able to choose who you use for the Story Mode from the beginning, in a selection screen or something. I wasn't really happy that I had to play characters in the SSE that I never used in previous games, by strong personal preference.

Also, I would much rather fight one character than have to fight hundreds of completely petty and pitiful minions. My fear is that they try to add an emphasis to the setting as much as they did in SSE, because they might try to show off graphics power. Because they wanted to add an emphasis to setting, they tried to make beautiful backgrounds that stretched on and on and on and on... which meant more useless enemies to fight that posed no threat at all. Again, maybe one closed off area where you fight maybe a whole team of actual characters, I don't care what it takes. I would rather that serve as one whole level than the long levels filled with fluff enemies.

I actually liked SSE pretty much, but something from different Nintendo worlds combined would be wonderful. It would be great if the stages were as big as the SSBB ones to get more to explore. And for God's sake, bring back multiplayer in story mode.

I loved the subspace emissary except for one thing: the enemies. (save for the mario ones)
I hope the next one is like SSE except it has us fighting classic nintendo enemies instead of generic poorly designed random enemies.
