A toxic household to me is one where narcissistic parents don't empathize with their sons or daughters. Especially if they don't share the same hobbies, relationship goals with people their own age, and straight up gatekeeping their own kids' independence for the parents' mental stability (they would throw a fit and try to change the subject when I wanted to get a license, for example).
Just straight up cognitive bias from the parent, with some apprehensive behavior by the parents reasons alone.

To be honest, I don't really want couples to stay close just because of the kids either.

Exactly however not many parents can actually comprehend that.
They would be under the impression of doing kids a favour.... But what they are doing is making the kids get disgusted with the idea of marriage (_ _)/

I think that's ok... If the person in question is....in their late 20s and being a bother at home without helping out much.It's hard to provide...
when you don't do much to help.
