The old lifecycle for a console was something like 8-10 years but there's a number of tech writers out there who think we'll see the next generation much sooner. One reason was that when Xbox one and PS4 lauched people were surprised at the initial sales, and drop-off in people buying games for the previous generation. People were dying to get their hands on something new, and Microsoft and Sony haven't forgotten that.
So far the only public information I've seen is that the next-gen Xbox will be more game focused (thankfully), with slick tech specs, and less emphasis on the whole TV side of things. I think though they have to come up with something new to get people really excited. Maybe VR or an online only console.
What do you think we'll see?
