Vote in the poll, then post what it'd be like in more depth in the actual topic!

I'll start:

I'd ideally want it to be sort of like a cross between Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy and the Paper Mario series. It's hard to explain perfectly, but think of it like this. Instead of a hub world where you use paintings or domes to transport Mario to worlds, you just make your way there across the overworld like in the original Paper Mario. Maybe it'd have something like forcefields to stop you reaching areas before getting the right number of shines rather than immersion ruining teleportation mechanics.

Of course, each area would be behind a gate or something, so the screen transition would give the Wii U enough time to load the next level.

Maybe then there'd be a clock like in the 3D Zelda titles, so instead of having a Mario Sunshine/Pianta Village style 'level 1 is night, level 2 is day, level 3 is...' system, you'd have certain missions/stars only gainable at certain times of day. Never got why that never happened in a Mario game yet, even Mario Party got in on the act I think...

The courses would be a mix of the types found in Mario 64 and Sunshine and the types found in Galaxy 1, 2 and 3D Land. So some levels would be wide open with lots of areas to explore and more side quest and collectathon missions, and some would be linear courses with different paths leading to different stars.

Level theme wise, it'd again be a mix. Maybe one of them would be in space and would bring back Mario Galaxy style orbital physics. Some would be the usual desert/water/ice/grass/volcano levels, and they'd be levels with unique themes like a food based world or a toy based area or something like Tick Tock Clock in Mario 64. Giant world too, maybe one in the style of the NES era games.

And the Koopalings, Bowser and original bosses would all be present.

So what would your ideal 3D Mario game be like?

I want to see F.L.U.D.D. incorporated into a SM64/SMG styled game. Or the other way around, where galaxies are different theme parks, like in Sonic Colors. Or just make a game where Luigi fights a giant Bacon Strip Overlord with his trusty frying pan. That would work too.

I want another game like Super Mario 64 that isn't a remake or a sequel. I want a new 3D Mario game in which Mario runs around and collects stars without any real gimmics.

I wouldn't mind a Mario Sunshine 2. I mean it would be pretty cool I guess for FLUDD to come back.

I don't want another Galaxy game though. I've never played SMG 2, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't need another one.

Actually I kind of want a SM64 style where you switch between Mario and Luigi. Kind of like SM64DS, but not. Meaning that it could work like it did for the DS version of Super Mario 64, but a new game. That or do it like in Galaxy 1 where after you beat Mario's story, then unlock Luigi.

I could be fancy and say I want a Mario game where Peach is stolen by Bowser then you have to save her and when you beat the game you unlock Luigi and instead of Peach, it's Daisy. That's just wishful thinking and there's very small chance that would happen, but it would be cool.

A Galaxy game with more exploration like in 64.

I'm not creative enough to name specifically what I would like, but another game like Super Mario 64 would be nice. Don't get me wrong the galaxy games are great, but they are a bit more linear than SM64 and after two of them I would like to go back to having that freedom of exploration. Heck, I'd like it to be even more open and free than SM64.

In fact, Nin's idea of a sort of Paper Mario, 64, Galaxy cross sounds pretty good to me.
