When using the touchscreen on the 3DS (or DS, DS Lite, or DSi), do you ALWAYS use the touchpen?

Or do you sometimes (or always) use your finger?

I am just curious.

Personally, I always use the touchpen, without exception. I am sensitive about fingerprints on the beautiful screen... although I know there are many who don't care about that. What about you?

For me it depends on the game. Kid Icarus: Uprising I always use the stylus. Metroid Prime Hunters is my finger (because I'm so used to just finding the things to hit with my finger it's natural), and for Pokemon it's whichever is more convenient at the time. Now, granted, since I still don't have screen protectors for my 3DS I try to use the stylus more, but it doesn't always happen, just because of my habits with some games.

For most games I'm more inclined to use the stylus, Kid Icarus: Uprising being an example of one such game. For slower paced games that can switch between button and touch screen controls (like Pokémon) I'll sometimes just use my finger because the only reason I'm using the touch screen is because it's faster than using the buttons on menus and the like, so I wouldn't slow myself down more by fiddling to take the stylus out. I do find fingerprints on the screen annoying after a while, though.

Always use the stylus. While I know you can use your fingers, I don't want fingerprints all over the screen. Would just look messy.

This, and

If a game is pretty much forcing me to use my finger (Pokemon white, you can't walk with the stylus, can walk with buttons, I have to keep putting the stylus in and out) Then I use the buttons only or never buy the game at all.

This is untill I get that sweet screen protector that is anti-glare and anti-thumbprints!

Both.

If it involves Nintendo Letter Box (Swapnote in the US), I'll use the stylus.

If it involves using a 'keyboard' to type in something, like the name of a folder, or something, I'll use a stylues. But if it's something like selecting something in a menu on SM3DL I'll use my fingers.

This. I usually use my finger when I'm just going through menus and whatnot, but I use my stylus for things like Swapnote and Kid Icarus: Uprising. The fact that the stylus is kind of a pain in the ass to get out during gameplay is part of the reason I don't use it all the time. I think I used the stylus a lot more on my DSi, when it was easy to get to.

Like everyone else is saying, it depends on the game I'm playing. Games like EBA or Professor Layton, I use the stylus. Pokemon, for example, is when I use my finger. I hate when I see other people dragging their finger across the screen when playing games e.e My knees buckle at the pain I feel.

I'll always use the stylus. It's more precise, and more importantly, I would never even consider getting finger prints on the screen.

So what about iPods and iPhones and anything else that uses a touchscreen? Do you never even consider getting fingerprints on those, too?
Those are different. They have a capacitive touch screen (rather than the resistive one of the 3DS). You need to use fingers on a capacitive touch screen, as they work be sensing the electrical current conducted by your fingers (rather than sensing pressure like a resistive touch screen), and a plastic stylus does not conduct electricity (capacitive touch screens also don't have such a small sensitivity area, so you don't need the precision of a stylus).
I don't have a smartphone, so I don't actually have to worry about it, but if I did they I would use my fingers and just resign myself to covering in fingerprints, because I would simply have to choice. But with the 3DS I do have a choice, so why would I use a finger when I could just use the stylus?

[sub]Can't you just wipe the prints off?[/sub]

[sub]I've seen second hand DS's and 3DS's that had scrapes from kids presumably leaning too much on the stylus, so that's something I've been more concerned about.[/sub]

I almost always use the stylus. After having my 3DS for about a week now, I'm quite a bit more used to the stylus location and I don't find myself fighting to find where it is, so it's no longer an issue for me. I do however use my finger if it's something minor, such as hitting "power off" when turning the 3DS off. If the game doesn't require you to use the touchscreen, such as Pokémon titles, I normally don't use the touchscreen at all.

I use it when I type in the web browser. Actually, the browser is all I use it for nowadays. When I just need to "click" something, I use my fingernail.
