When do you think Sony will actually release the PS6? Do you think games will still be made for PS4? lol.
Releasing it at $999 will kill the PS6 sales outright lol Even the steam deck is already $789 USD (512GB) and $949 USD (1TB) with much much weaker specs than ps5. And Sony exclusives are pretty weak. They won't risk releasing it anytime soon + they already made so many bad business decisions, the trio are all failures (Jim, Nishino, Hulst) lol the main reason why PS5 can still fly is because of Xbox's bad business decisions and failures and Xbox is taking it way way harder because their previous gen console wasn't strong while Sony's PS4 was pretty strong. Sony should really start fixing their main core issues with their exclusive games in order for ps6 to be successful but of course next Xbox console won't necessarily be successful too if that's the case then ps6 will still float but will still do a lot less than ps5 and Nintendo will win again lol
Honestly? I don't want it. At least not in the near future. I still feel like my PS5 can get a lot of mileage. And with the current economy, it would be a bad move before at least 2028.
I hate using GTA as the measuring stick for everything, but… it really is the best test case we’re going to get. GTA6 looks absolutely massive, and the visuals are clearly pushing the hardware. If that game can run well on the current consoles, then honestly, I think we need to pump the brakes on rushing into a PS6.
Right now, the conversation is full of worries about a $999 console killing sales, and the economy not being in a great place for a new system anyway. So if GTA6 launches and performs smoothly without obvious compromises, that’s a pretty strong sign that the PS5 still has plenty of life left. In that case, pushing new $1000 hardware just so studios don’t have to optimize feels like the wrong move.
But if GTA6 drops and you can clearly see where Rockstar had to cut corners, limit systems, or scale back to make it work, then yeah, I’d be more open to the idea of a new console in a couple of years. It would show that we’re finally hitting the ceiling of what the current generation can realistically handle.
For now, though, I’m firmly in the “wait and see” camp. GTA6 is going to tell us a lot about whether a PS6 is actually needed or if the PS5 still has room to breathe.
I could possibly see them announcing it maybe towards the end of this year and maybe releasing it within the next year or two. I'm sure they're going to try to release it around the time that Project Helix releases, which could be at the end of next year or beginning of 2028.
