I'm considering getting a PS4 or a PS5. While I'm considering which one of those to get, I also have to find someone who sells it.

Does anyone know where I can get one right now? Would I have to order it? How long do you think I"d have to wait?

The PS5 is only a few months old, and doesn’t have a lot of games on it yet. Couple that with it being really hard to find right now due to stock issues, the PS4 is the better choice.

The PS4 has been out for several years, so you have a ton of games available right now, as opposed to a PS5 where you have to wait for new games.

So you have to ask yourself the question: do you want to play the latest and greatest, but have to wait for games, or are you fine with being a generation behind and have a readily available backlog?

PS4 is the better choice at the moment for Jrpgs. PS5 will be getting jrpgs too but it will still be quite the wait (Final Fantasy 16 where art thou lol)

I'll wait for it for a couple more months, because right now it seems hard to get. Its not good to support the scalpers out there, haha.
If you really want one now, try looking around in your local businesses, if there are any game stores that you know besides the 'chain' ones

I'd wait, I would say go for PS4 pro but apparently they are out of stock as well as no longer made unless you find a deal on ebay.

I think in the long run a PS5 will be a better buy as that will also play PS4 games.

Thank you guys for your imput. Best Buy I know doesn't have anything and one of the guys that works there said they can't even order it for me. I figured it would be hard to get since a lot of people were buying it during the pandemic to keep their kids entertained while they were under lockdown.

If price isn't an issue, it makes way more sense to buy a PS5 because it can also play PS4 games. The only issue of course is finding a place that has it in stock. Best bet would be to keep an eye on some deal sites where they update stock availability for different places.

If that's the reason its a bad one. Not much you can do with it right now unless the people have a PS4 backlog to play. A different console would have been better.

Tbh the PS5 being sold out everywhere for months would have happened even without the pandemic. It’s happened for the past 3 Playstations, so this isn’t exactly new.
Can’t vouch for the PS1 because it was pre- EBay, but starting with the PS2, they’ve always been hard to come by at launch and there’s always been scalpers. You can find old articles on the PS2, 3 and 4 about there being high demand and low stock.

pretty sure this pandemic made things worse with compnies trying to keep it online or having flash sales that only screw over those who want one.

Idk, it seems kind of hard to say if the pandemic helped the scalping situation or not if Sony has a history of not having a lot of stock at launch. If the past 3 consoles were hard to find at launch, except from scalpers, I think Sony is either having trouble making them or taking notes from Nintendo with keeping low stock to drive hype.

Since we're in the age of the internet, you can find old articles from 2000, 2006, and 2013 talking about the consoles being hard to come by, and people scalping them. So I can't just blame the pandemic if it's been a pretty consistent theme here.

consistent yes, but we all know many sales were kept online so people could avoid covid situations which just drove more stock towards the scalper bots.

People are also lining up in stores to physically buy them as well. I’m just saying you can’t blame the pandemic when this is nothing new. People are just blaming it on the pandemic because console launches, particularly PlayStation launches are so infrequent, most people tend to forget about it and act like it’s unprecedented.

When the pandemic first started and Switches were hard to find, a ton of people straight up forgot how hard they were to find for several months after launch. Also people forgot about PS3 and Wii scalping when the PS4 was being scalped.

Buying them where? I know people were lining up but that's because they don't understand the concepts of out of stock or online only. It's still obvious scalpers are being boosted by pandemic measures.

Walmart, Bestbuy, Target, GameStop. They have sections in stores for the console, though obviously all empty. Most people I know that own one, got them at a physical store, mind you that’s only like 10 people. It was also online only for launch day, and about a month later they were having them in stores.

Honestly, sometimes the stores themselves don’t know what “online only” means. As there’s been several times where I’ve seen stores list a product as “online only”, and sometimes later that same day I see it sitting on the store shelves.

So no, I’m not buying the pandemic issue if there’s nothing really unique here compared to previous console scalping,

Might be worthwhile buying from a second-hand seller if you're going to go for a PS4, to be honest. Most people getting a PS5 will want to get rid of theirs and will undercut most stores.

Wal-mart, Target and other department and discount stores may have some PS4 and PS5 consoles in stock at their local store or online.
