Why F-Zero Is Perfect For 3DS

Well, there's been a bit of talk about it, so here's my thoughts on this series, and why I think it desperately needs a bit of a revival on the 3DS.

Firstly, let's take a look at the history of the series. Started out on the SNES, using the traditional "Mode 7" (I think that's it) we saw in Super Mario Kart. So it was like Super Mario Kart, just different graphics and rules. It stuck more to strategic racing over crazy items. It's actually an all right game, not too shabby for the SNES. Here's a piccer of it's humble beginnings:

Now we come to the N64, with F-Zero X. Good lord, what an improvement. Instead of the default 4 racers (with random robots) in the SNES, we get 30, yes, 30 unique racers, each with their own machines that have their own stats. And yes, you race against all 30 at once. They had to watch the graphics of the game to make sure the N64 could handle all 30 ships at a time, and they did a good job at it. Here's a nice screenshot:

Like with Mario Kart: Super Circuit, F-Zero also saw a SNES recreation hit the GBA. In fact, we got two (for some reason). The graphics went down, and the controls? Just like Super Circuit, they got messed around I think. Not much to say here, except they added an interesting story mode, which would soon mould the next game we see... and that is...

F-ZERO GX! The mother of the F-Zero series by far. On the GameCube, with Sega and Nintendo joining up to make some wicked cool game (in fact, AV who worked on Super Monkey Ball was here too) that just blew me away when I played it. Here's a screenshot of some nice screenshots of tracks:

Now along with amazing, detailed tracks that had interesting quirks (a whole race inside a pipe? Yes, there's one of those. Screw you, gravity!), we also get a freaking story mode. And I was shocked when I saw it. It had some of the coolest cutscenes I've ever seen. Voice acting and all.

The story mode was weird. You had to pay to unlock chapters. That was it's only flaw, everything else about it was golden.

Anyhoo, now that you've been given a brief history of the games, here's what I'd like to see.

The 3DS has got graphics of near the GameCube, so if it's anything close to F-Zero GX, it would look amazing. Couple this with 3D graphics and goodness gracious, that would be awesome. F-Zero GX really emphasised how fast you were racing, and had some effects in there that are just screaming "I need to be in 3D!".

It has a ton of options. You've got Grand Prix, Story Mode, Multi-player mode. I'm sure they could shove in a Wi-Fi mode (a race with 30 people at once sounds crazy, maybe just pick 8 and have some computers fill the rest, who knows) if they tried. Then you've got the customisation they had in F-Zero GX, where you could fine tune any vehicle. This was a true racing game, much more detailed than Mario Kart, but still had the same "pick up and play right away" feeling to it. And as a console game, it would be even easier to do just that.

I would love this series to get a revival. A console version of this would be awesome, I'd enjoy every second of it. This series hasn't gotten many games, but wow, the last game it got was amazing. I don't know if this game would be boost sales that much for the 3DS... but I know it would definitely become one of the better games for the console in an instant. In fact, I'm confident to say I would say it would be a more entertaining racing game for me than Mario Kart 7 was (but maybe that's because this one's all skill, no dodgy blue shells coming at me).

And that's my little speech as for what I want one. In depth too, unlike a few other posts. Feel free to comment, add, whatever.

Would be pretty cool, but I'd porbably play Mario Kart. The amount of characters is interesting, though it would be better with cooler characters.

Yeah, most of the characters are pretty weird. I guess it suits the whole "space future theme" in a way. Still, I think it's fairly entertaining, a nice little high-speed racing game.

I have one problem with this... wouldn't you potentially get pretty disorientated trying to race in a F-Zero game at a few thousand miles per hour with the 3D view on? It'd be a really exciting experience, but you'd probably fill almost travel sick after an hour or two.

Turn off/down the 3D. Simple!

I'd play it just to get sick! *awkward wink*

But yeah, who knows... it would still be pretty neat, and without the 3D off I'd still quite like it. Guess there's only one way to find out, someone has to make this game for 3DS. *shifty eyes*
