One of the more pleasant surprises from Nintendo's E3 showings this week has been the fact that the Wii U will have a proper online community. If you think that means you'll be able to write "TITS" and draw rude things all over the place, though, you're wrong.
You're also probably 12, and should be in bed by now.

According to a report on the LA Times, in order to keep its Miiverse community safe and secure, Nintendo will be using not one, not two, but three layers of security.

The first is one that all companies use: software to track for offensive words or terms. Useful, but there are ways to fvck with that sh!t.
So the second layer will be user-submitted complaints. Flagged comments, that sort of thing. Useful, but again, standard stuff, and not terribly helpful because the offensive message has already got through.

The third layer is called "human resources". In other words, there will be Nintendo employees whose job it is to "monitor content on Miiverse". Which means, basically, that in the interests of family safety, the Miiverse needs moderator approval for comments.
And this is where it gets messy. According to the LA Times' report, depending on how many comments are being made and how many employees Nintendo has in place monitoring, "there will probably be a delay between the time a user creates a post and when it appears in the Miiverse feed".

And how long could that delay be? In quiet times, probably not long! But when it's busy?

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata: "...personally, I think 30 minutes should be acceptable".

I say come here to GF and have zero time in delay on your posts :)

I don't mind the monitoring. Really would ruin things having people just curse all day or talk about sex on it lol. As long as they have good response time, I don't mind. I probably won't use it anyways . Just send them as messages or use forums.

Blah! Censorship! I hate it.

It's not censorship, it's a sense of decorum. I'm glad they are taking these measures to keep a standard of behavior in the Miiverse. How much better would Live be if Microsoft had laid down and held down the law from the beginning? I wonder how much the human monitors will get paid to do that? Are they at a call center or will it be a work at home job?

Microsoft lol. I can't play a single game on the 360 online without having 2 or 3 people cursing through the whole game. It's like they have no other words in their vocab? And don't forget about the stuff people were doing with the Kinect. Honestly, it was ridiculous. I hope also Nintendo cracks down on the misuse of the camera.

Thankyou! At last there will be one community that isn't overrun with idiots who can't speak anything but chanspeak. Half the reason I avoid online play like the plague is that I don't like cursing for the sake of cursing especially when we're trying to be stealthy. I mean shutup dude I don't think you're older just because all you talk about is breasts and the probable masculine traits of myself and others.

Exactly. If Nintendo can stop it before it gets out of hand, then they should do whatever they can. Microsoft could still step in and turn it around, but at this point they don't want to and they don't have to. People have just accepted it as part of Live.
