Armed Fantasia is officially canceled dang! from noisy pixel:
505 Games parent company Digital Bros
confirmed the cancellation in its financial results for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. The company listed Armed Fantasia alongside Directorate: Novitiate and a sequel to Battle Islands among projects it has discontinued after reviewing their development progress, market prospects, and the additional investment required to complete them.
The cancellation comes only months after Wild Bunch Productions provided its most substantial development update in some time. In March 2026, Kaneko said the team had completed a vertical-slice ROM featuring Armed Fantasia’s main scenario, core gameplay systems, and other integrated elements before submitting it to the publisher.
At the time, Kaneko apologized for the extended gap between updates and said the studio was preparing the remaining content while connecting and refining the different parts of the game. He also noted that the timing and scope of public updates were affected by the publisher’s strategy, contracts, and rights-related restrictions.
Digital Bros’ latest financial report now states that Armed Fantasia was discontinued after multiple attempts to revise its gameplay. The company said it considered changing market conditions, the project’s commercial potential, and the additional investment required to complete development before making the decision.
Digital Bros recorded €17.6 million in write-offs tied to discontinued projects during the fiscal year. The company did not break down how much of that amount was specifically connected to Armed Fantasia.
The cancellation comes as Digital Bros shifts its publishing strategy toward a smaller number of projects and properties. Its upcoming release schedule includes Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement, the full releases of Assetto Corsa EVO and Assetto Corsa Rally, and smaller-scale titles such as Nivalis Nights.
The March update had indicated that development was still progressing, with the team having submitted a vertical slice and preparing the remaining content. Digital Bros’ financial report does not address refunds, backer rewards, development assets, or what the cancellation means for Wild Bunch Productions going forward.
That leaves several questions unanswered for the more than 17,000 people who backed the joint Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood campaign, particularly regarding how the cancellation will affect crowdfunding obligations and any remaining rewards.
