I think many people don't want to spend a lot of money on more expensive shiny metal wheels for their electric car, so many people will choose to use basic steel wheels for their electric car. Steel wheels can last for many years without breaking like cracking. Steel wheels can last longer than most parts on a gas car, so some people may stick to buying steel wheels for an electric car because they have a reputation of being reliable and easier to repair than aluminum wheels. Steel wheels are also more affordable to repair, and can be repaired with a hammer, and other basic metal working tools. Replacement steel wheels are more affordable to buy. A steel wheel cost about $60 US dollars instead of many hundreds of dollars for a more expensive aluminum wheel for cars.
I read a forum posts about wheels that heavier steel wheels are better handling for driving in snow than lightweight aluminum wheels. Plus, most people dont want to risk breaking expensive aluminum wheels in the winter where there are pot holes and road cracks which are sometimes hidden under snow and water, so steel wheels is a better choice for people who dont want to risk breaking more expensive alluminum car wheels.
Electric cars will cost more money than most used gas car, and basic gas cars like a Chevy Spark which cost about $10,000 US dollars. Electric car buyerd may try to save money by buying the cheapest model of an electric car which usually come with cheaper steel wheels, cloth seats, and no air conditioning.
Electric work vehicles like buses, garbage trucks, police cars, etc will most likely keep using steel wheels like gas work vehicles because steel is more durable, simpler to repairable, and cheaper to buy than aluminum wheels.
Plus, fewer car theives want to steal basic steel wheels because of the low price of steel wheels which cost $50 new compared to aluminum wheels which cost hundreds of dollars. The dirty brown rust which forms on old steel wheels may make robbers not want to steal a rusty steel wheel. People who dont want to risk having their wheels stolen as often will pick cheap basic steel wheels for their electric car.
