And if so, a few things:

1. Will it be included with the patch or as seperate?

2. Will Nintendo ever add new characters, stages or options to the game?

Really, I think including new stuff like characters and stages and modes in the glitch fixing patch would be a really wise if you ask me. Think about it, you have no problems online since you NEED to download the patch to access it again and its free, so you don't have to 'segregate' players based on whether they have the new content or not. It also fixes the problems with DLC not being on the game card for all players by being a required patch, since one way or another EVERYONE would be forced to download the new additions.

Is this a good idea? Would Nintendo ever consider it.

I think it is. I think more characters should be added to the game and there should be more tracks and battle stages.

It'd be nice to have downloadable content.

3 main things that should be added:
  1. Watch replays after Time Trials
  2. Rankings (and the ability to watch replays of ghosts, as in Mario Kart Wii)
  3. Customisable VS Mode (like in Mario Kart Wii, maybe with MORE options, like specific items, and maybe their frequency, from "none" to "high")
Other things that would be awesome, but quite unlikely, more tracks, and characters... or maybe they'll even edit tracks to make them even longer?

Speaking of which, how do you think they're going to fix the Wuhu glitch? For example, at the moment, falling into the water at that certain point, puts up up to the higher part (because the original intention of that check point, was that you were supposed to have fallen FROM the top some how), but if they made it so that the water puts you back on the lower part, what if you fell from the higher part? You'd be pushed BACK about 20 seconds... which would be the WORST thing Nintendo would have done.

The only way I can see this happening, is if they somehow edit the track so that it doesn't appear so close, and therefore, there's no need to fall back down into that water.

Otherwise, they could maybe make it so that if you fall in the water, it places you on back on the track near where you fell off (where the glitch is usually exploited, just after the 1st section), and they could put a fence at the top, preventing you from falling down as was the original intention when putting that check point there.

In short:
Bottom -> fall in water -> Top = Win
Top -> fall in water -> Top = This is why the glitch happens.

If they did the opposite then:
Bottom -> fall in water -> Bottom = Normal
Top -> fall in water -> Bottom = RAGE!

So the ONLY way is to either do that fence thing, OR actually completely redo that part of the track.

I think that is a great idea as well, especially for the people who pretty much unlocked everything. Also, there won't be those glitches to ruin everyone's fun online.
And I also like TUK's idea about which stuff should be added, along with new characters, tracks, and battle arenas.

Or you could go completely insane and shove a large invisible floor covering the area so you defy physics and drive on nothing. But then people would complain that it defies physics even for a Mario game...

Anyway, I HOPE they do, but I find it highly unlikely. New characters and tracks would be fantastic but are probably the most doubt-able of the lot. VS Mode seems more likely the those and I can't see why not, if they're going to fix a few glitches, Nintendo CAN'T put this into the game.

Also TUK, with what you said about replays... I'd like the ability to watch a Time Trial by someone else without having to race against it, in an attempt to study their racing line, as well as re-watching my own.

Does anyone know yet what happens when the game DOES get patched to the Time Trials of the glitched courses? Will these be removed or something?

The characters/karts thingy soounds good. Could be like in Animal Crossing, where you received new furniture every month or so..

Well I guess that based on the fastest char/kart combo using Nintendo's official best run you can get, all times below that should be removed. Yeah some legit super fast scores might get erased but nobody is perfect.
